anyone know anything about socketing and rom tuning?

so, im still on the fence about nistune considering what the needs of my project are. ive been doing some research and it looks like socketing my ECU and buying an eprom burner would allow me to remap for bigger injectors and pull a little timing up top so can run the boost my T3 is capable of. looks like itd cost me about $75 to get the hardware i need and chips are about $4each. so i could get my car dialed in pretty inexpensive. ive been playing around with live edit on my laptop and from what i can see, this program will do everything i need. i know this is antiquated these days, but has anyone got any experience with this?

so, 27c128 are the correct 16k 28 pin cheaps needed then right? and can i use one of those cheap $40 universal ebay/amazon burners? ive got a stock map from both an 84T and an 88T. i was thinking i could use the scaling in livedit for the 370 injectors, leave the target AFRs alone because they look theyll be good up to 14psi because of the rising regulator. id like to run NA ignition timing up to about 2200 rpm and then transition into basically the stock 84T timing numbers under boost, that way i can run the high boost without loosing a ton of bottom end power like i am now since i had to use base timing on the distributor to get to a happy place for now. i figure i can socket the maxima ECU and run a modified Z31 bin like i mentioned. will still have proper idle control and closed loop fuel control. then i can theoretically sell the 88T ECU i have to recoup costs from buying the burning hardware. thoughts?????

haha! is it a major ignition retard to cause combustion in the turbine housing??? i dont know if my poor T3 could handle that!

in any case, i may actually need you to help me with a bin file. live edit crashes every 3 minutes, i cant get rom editor to load at all and tuner pro reads the map all wrong. i think i may have the wrong xdf filr for tuner pro tho. ill have to do more digging. which is a shame too, because tuner pro seems to be the most cpable of the 3 programs. also, i cant find any stock 88 maxima bins so i dont know how much timing i should be running on the bottom end.

I don't see the 88 maxima ecu listed on Nistune may not be supported. I would stick with the z31 ecu if it was me. Here is a screenshot of a j30 maxima stock timing map and then a z31 turbo timing map.

no the maxima map insint in nistune last time i used it i just used the z31 na map for the maxima when i did mine. the one thing i love about nistune was that when it was time for smog just plug in the laptop, swap out injectors, and manifolds, intake and id be ready to go lol.

well, i pulled the prom from the maxima ecm and ordered some 28 pin sockets. ill be pulling the prom from the z31 turbo shortly and installing that for now till i get a burner. i may need to get with you (akurtzer) when it comes time to start making my own roms. im pretty excited about it tho. bigger injectors...less timing....more boost lol. also, that glue nissan puta on the boards is a real pain in the neck haha

yes it is. I need order another socket to switch my nistune over. If doing eprom get you a zif socket 20x easier pulling eprom to burn it.

dammit. i just ordered regular sockets . im still trying to find a way to rdut maps tho. i cant find an XDF for tunerpro that reads the bins properly, nor can i seem to get liveedit to display properly either. and $200 for a nistune licence seems like a waste if im not also installing a board. i was planning to go with 27f512 eeprom chips and the moates burn2, but if i cant edit maps then thatll be on hold for a while

I can edit your bin and email it to you then just you can use flash n burn software to burn the eprom. I never could find any software to read them right why I used nistune to edit them.

hop to it. Cant have race cars just sitting around LOL. Ive been borrowing an ostrich 1.0 for a week now and made some major advances. Im about to order an ostrich 2.0 for myself since it address traces. Also, i spent a lot of time on the coputer and got an XDF working for tunerpro so i can edit pretty much everything now!

Got the ostrich 2.0 installed. So far im really impressed and for the money im really glad i went this route. Ostrich combined with tunerpro RT amd a wideband has done wonders for this car! Been working o the boost transition and cold start mostly. Its amazing how much improvement. I wish id done this much sooner. Wanna email me some rom files to study akurtzer?
