98 Maxima gets to 2500 RPMs& just cuts out and dies

So I'm a 1st time maxima owner & fell in love w/ 1st test drive. To best of my knowledge previous owner had no issues w/ car. I didn't til just 3 days ago. Went to start car & battery dead. Blamed kid for radio. LOL! Jumped car & drove about 3 blocks & all my sensors & radio started flashing & tripping out. 2 blocks later it just cut put & died. I assumed it was the altinator so replaced that. Seemed fine in idle. Took for test run & as soon as it hit 2500 RPMs it did it again. Tried to reverse & it just died when I hit the gas. HELP!

You need to verify if the alternator is charging The quality of replacement alternators (and starters) is such a sorry state. Get a voltmeter and measure the voltage when the engine is running. It should be about 14.2 volts give or take a tenth. Then turn on the headlights, bights and the heater fan, rear window defogger and watch the voltage. It will change, but less than one volt.

Any cel, or codes?

MAF, or mass airflow sensor is often the cause if the car cuts out at 2500.

Couldn't agree more. Gotta look at the alternator again and the MAF. Should be a simple fix.

The fuses can get oxidized in 20 years. Removing and installing rubs some of that off. But chances are that it will reoccur. I rub the fuse con tact with 600 grit sandpaper. Rub till the crud is gone.

Thanks for the update. Succss is good.

The car won't rev past 2500rpms than you know the mafs bad. This happended to me in mtz 3.5l quest the car symptoms were flashing lights abs, tcs, ses, brake, battery light. This is how the late nissans act up with the rev and hesitate of drive and gear shifting.
