Do you also feel pulsation in the brake pedal?

it sounds like you have a warped rotor, or the brake pads are hanging up on the guide pins or sliders.

Does the car pull in one direction when you apply the brake?

 

 

 

Seems like a rotor is warped.

Touch the wheels about halfway to the center. One will be warmer or hotter than the other. That will be the side which needs attention.

Caution.... could be hot to the touch.

 

 

 

A warped rotor or a stuck or binding caliper will continue to act up even if you are not using the brake.

Again, does one of the front wheels feel hotter than the other one if you drive the car a while?

 

 

You think that you know the location. But you need to confirm your guess. Touch both wheels after driving a few miles. If you are afraid of burns, touch wit wet hands.

I had a rear caliper bind and make grinding noises when I was 200 miles from home. On a Sunday.
So I could trust my luck, or figure out what the problem was. The binding one was almost too hot to touch, while the other side was fairly cool.

I found a binding, stuck caliper after I drove the car home.

JvG is giving spot on advice. If neither side gets hot, pull the wheels and see of the inside dust/mud shield has been bent to touch the rotor or the pad slipped or the caliper hardware rotted and left residue somewhere against the rotor.


But not another post until you check the temp of both wheels after driving 20 minutes.

And what does it take to touch your front rims after driving your car?

 

I'd suggest you do not ignore this problem too long...If its when braking, its a message telling you "Hey driver your brakes need attention!" good luck and do come back with what solved the problem.

 

agreed, it aint rocket science, it's brakes. as in, you won't have any if you don't do what we as maxima experts tell ya to do.

The problem was the front left wheel bearing.

 

that sounded more like a caliper going bad to me, if that was a wheel bearing, they usually make a constant noise, not a rub noise at braking. weird

 

Yep, got it replaced and the noise is gone.. Going for an alignment tomorrow.

 

Thanks for the update. My issue sounds exactly like yours. It was misdiagnosed by a shop, costing me $240.
My car is making the exact same noise.
