Car Doesn't Start Sometimes: New Battery for Key?

So my car doesn't start up sometimes. Could it be the battery in my key fob is dead? Doesn't happen all the time though.

If your fob battery is low, you should see a warning in the DIC.

When you say it "doesn't start up sometimes", do you mean the starter doesn't engage when the start button is pushed or the starter is working but the engine wont fire up?

Sometimes I will have to hit the start button several times. Usually I will hit the lock button on the key fob while in the car and then hit the start button. This usually works. Again, this doesn't happened often, but it does sometimes.

Change the battery in the fob its CR2032, you should have a message on your dash if the battery is low though.

I've had to replace a battery for my key fob already. Never got a message in the dash, it just worked intermittently.

How ironic today my 2017 gave me a display message at start up "low key battery", if your not looking you might miss it because it only displays a few seconds each startup.

To be clear, the starter is not turning and the car makes no sounds? Is there an indication on the dash such as "no key detected?"

Ironic or coincidental?

You will get a message if no key is detected.

Are you telling me? I know, that's why I asked. If the fob isn't detected nothing will happen when you press the start button, except for the message.

I blame ESPN and other sports talk shows.

They ALWAYS use the word "ironic" when they really mean to say "coincidence" and they've been doing it for 20+ years. They have raised an entire generation that has no use for the word coincidence.
