Moonroof Delete Soon To Be Available

Since The_Wizard didn't want to sell me his years ago I decided to find my own source to have one made. It completely replaces the moonroof assembly. It's made out of carbon fiber. You will have to make your own brackets and clear coat then seal the perimeter yourself. Glass replacement may be available if you'd like to keep your moonroof assembly. Should work for '00-'03 but has not been confirmed yet.

Will check back once it's finished.. Currently it's been shaved to have a 1mm gap around to allow a seal to penetrate. It's also been sanded and cleared (not pictured).. Aluminum brackets have been made to have the panel bonded to them.

What is the benefit of this product?

It seems like a solution in search of a problem.

My assembly almost stopped working the other day. It would not close fully and would not tilt back up into the body. I was able to force it closed but by forcing it I messed up the seal around the glass. At this point it was time for it to go.

One benefit is removing the metal frame around the glass that’s rusted out on 85% of 4th gens. That rusted frame will cause the roof to rust up near the windshield (happened on my daily). Another benefit is being able to remove at least 30 pounds off the top of the car (possibly more I’ll weigh everything once I remove it all). Last one is that in the process the drains will no longer be needed so they will be removed as well. With no water running through the drains there’s no opportunity for a clog that’ll leave your interior soaked or a leak that’ll eventually rust out your quarter panels.

Rusty moonroof frame for reference. 3 out of my 4 cars have ones in similar condition. This part alone weights 13 lbs.

Chrisman, thanks for the explanation.
Your solution makes sense.

I live in Portland. While it rains a lot here, it does not snow much. Road salt is not used here. Rust is not an issue. So my moon roof is rust free.

This is why I will never touch my sunroof and will never attempt to open it because I'm afraid it's going to get stuck and no longer close anymore. Right now it's not leaking and closed tight.

Well, this thing is pretty much done. All that’s left is to seal the perimeter. Going to use black seam sealer for that.

Aluminum brackets mounted arohnd the chassis.

Panel bonded to the brackets using 3M 5200FC

Perimeter taped off. This was fun lol

All sealed up. Cleaned up the edges after this pic with a razor blade.

That's actually pretty awesome. I don't have a sunroof, but if I did...
