P0746

I am.new to this thread. I have a 2012 Nissan Maxima with 106,000. My axle boot busted last week. I had $2000 of work as a result. Got my cat back on Saturday and was back.at the mechanic first thing Monday morning. My car was not moving while trying to accelerate, not shifting into first gear after a stop. Long story short, it was the transmission. Codes revealed low transmission fluid and P0746 (closed presure control solenoid). Every transmission shop I call want to replace the tranny. I read that a valve body replacement will take car of the problems. I am not a mechanic but I think these mechanics are trying to take advantage of a female. Please let me know if the valve body is the fix and what is a reasonable price for labor costs? I am in Baltimore, Maryland. Any suggestions on a good honest mechanic? please help, I am a single woman on a fixed income and I cant afgord to throw $ away.

It may not be the cvt. When they replaced the axle(s) fluid most assuredly leaked out. It may be that the transmission is low on fluid which will cause those symptoms you describe. Check your transmission fluid level. If it isnt showing on the stick, get a quart of ns-2 and add that. If car shifts better, then do a drain and fill and replace the external filter while you are at it. Use only nissan NS-2 or you may find yourself really needing a transmission!
