New here and Seeking Nissan maxima GLE DIY guidance

Hello fellow Nissan Maxima owners, recently I bought a 2001 Nissan Maxima GLE for only $500 with the understanding it needed a new ignition lock cylinder put in and a pressurized power steering hose replaced. I have done those repairs and the car starts up nice and runs pretty great too. The only problem is there feels like there is air in the power steering line because it is jittery and jumpy at the steering wheel when turning after for starting the car. Also, when I turn my car a full direction, either way it does a squealing sound. Any advice or insight on how to fix this issue would be great.

Some other issues I’m having with this car are electrical. It is very obvious that the previous owner of this vehicle was an idiot, and he decided to cut out the factory issued Nissan harness for the original Bose stereo and had straight wired an aftermarket stereo to the car. When doing so he didn’t use the brackets that come for the car that hold the climate control and the stereo in place. It didn’t take me long to realize the poor wiring job done when this previous owner had switched out the stereo. Long story short I disconnected the battery removed the stereo and secured all loose ends of the wires. Now I am in need of the original wiring diagram so I can replace the reverse harness back to the vehicle.

I’m not sure if the above mentioned wiring issue is why I have no limitation on my dash or power to my climate control functions, but that is the electrical issue that I am struggling with at this point. Any advice on how to test if this is the cause of the issue? After doing some reading on here I have realized it could also be the dimmer that is broken or malfunctioning. I have a multimeter but am not sure how to test the dimmer with it to see if that is the issue or not. I know for certain that it isn’t the bulbs in the dash contributing to the problem because I have already pulled out the cluster and swapped those out for new ones as well as checked and replaced all broken fuses.

I welcome any and all advice around anything I have discussed here and thanks in advance for taking the time to read and help evaluate these issues

Did you bleed the power steering system?

Bleeding Hydraulic System

1. Raise front end of vehicle until wheels are clear of the ground.
2. Add fluid into oil tank to specified level. Then quickly turn steering wheel fully to right and left and lightly touch steering stoppers.
Repeat steering wheel operation until fluid level no longer decreases.
3. Start engine.
Repeat step 2. above.

You can get the wiring from the FSM https://www.nicoclub.com/nissan-service-manuals https://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Maxima/...L.pdf?embedded

Was the steering jittery and jumpy before replacing the line? If it was and the fluid is low, sounds like something else could be up. If it only started after replacing the line, then as said above probably just needs to be bled more. Air pockets in power steering systems will cause funky things

It wasn’t holding powersteering fluid much at all before replacing the pressurized hose because of this it wasn’t being driven. The hose that I replaced had a huge crack in it which is why I replaced it. Now it’s holding fluid just fine so I fixed that issue it’s just jittery but only when I first start the car or go to park it and have to crank the wheel fully one way or the other it squeals. I’ll bleed it better when the weather here permits it better.

if after bleeding all the air out and it still not working right, it's possible pump was damaged from running without fluid at one time or another.

This trim kit has the factory metal side brackets in plastic which should allow you to secure the climate control and a factory radio (use without the double din trim) or install an aftermarket double or single
Amazon Amazon

Factory plug end for a factory radio, if you have bose, you "might" need two kits if there's not enought conductors for the harness, if you find one harness is not complete you'll need to de pin an extra harness for the missing conductors
Amazon Amazon

If you have steering wheel control 2001+, and the original harness is cut and ends missing , the only option I can think of is get one from the junk yard

Really needing to know wire color sequence

I need to know the wiring color sequence for my dimmer control switch and what fuse that would be if I’ve blown it at this point… Any help is much appreciated
