Add me to the list - TX - AC evaporator box needs replacement

2016 Nissan maxima plat trim. I came across threads in here where others have had to get their AC evaporator box/dash removed to access it.

I had warm air starting up back in May and Brakes plus did an AC recharge. No leakage found. Took it to a local mechanic in Austin and they found the same issues others have mentioned. Total estimate is 3800 *cry*. But parts and labor covered for 3 years / 36k miles.

I took it to Cedar Park Nissan to see what they say but I imagine it’ll be the same thing, only with less warranty coverage.

Debating what to do. Hearing others having to fix this more than once does not bring me peace of mind to keep the car. I’m pissed as I really don’t want to deal with a car payment and planned to keep this car for a while.

Nissan not known for parts quality once past warranty. I'd chance it if you are keeping car for several years. Still a looker from all angles though I resent the new Sentra aping the max look.

Yeah, as much as I'm pissed at having to pay, I don't know if I'd be in a much better situation going for a new car or rolling the dice on a used one. I've gotten all the maintenance and taken good care of it so hopefully this is the last major expense for a while. Recently got new tires and had the rotors swapped. I'll just save up a fund in the event that I need to go a new car route sooner than anticipated.

The dealer got back to me and quoted me 2500 - they said it's only the evap box and everything else is fine so hopefully, that holds up for a while. I mentioned the reports I read on here and they claim they've done a lot of these repairs and haven't had issues come up after the warranty, but we will see. Could just be talk.
