2006 Maxima 3.5 SL Gets Stuck In 5th Until Car is Turned off.

I have a 2006 Nissan Maxima SL that gets stuck in 5th gear. It shifts into all the other gears fine but once you shift into 5th, it stays in 5th. The car jumps when you try to manually downshift in sequential mode. If you use sequential to drive the 4 gears though, no issue. When it gets stuck in 5th, you can turn the car off and back on and it goes back to first gear.

I tested the resistance between the 5 solenoids and all measure 13-14ohms (spec is 11-16ohms).

We have flushed the transmission fluid and it's good.

Let me know your thoughts.

You didn't mention the error codes set.

P0735 was the only code related to engine / transmission.

I cleared all the codes and cleaned up a connector that was plugged in underneath the transmission. It had a bunch of grime and oil and dirt. When I drove the car it all began working fine again. I could shift in and out of 5th gear automatically and sequentially. But after the transmission got warm, you could feel the transmission basically jump violently and get stuck in 5th.

The code mentions a valve getting stuck in OPEN instead of closing. So I'm replacing the valve body to replace all the solenoids. 1.8h labor time for the valve body vs 2.8 labor time to replace solenoids

Installing a good valve body is not a bad idea. Good luck and keep us posted.
