First week impressions of my 2K2 SE
First week impressions of my 2K2 SE
Alright I have had this **** for about 6 days now and here's what I've thought so far:
I came from a 97 GLE so this is like a whole new car to me. The 6 speed is a blast, very easy to drive although I'm still getting used to modulating the clutch. The last stick I drove was a 94 Mustang GT, and the shifting on this one is noticeably smoother. Despite the fact that everyone bashes the Potenzas left and right, coming from the 15" rims and less ***** out suspension of the GLE, this car feels so much more stable on the road. I feel like I'm back in a sports car again. I've been doing my best to behave and keep my shifts at around 3K rpm, but last night on the way home I completely threw that out the window. I have around 450 miles on it, and on the highway last night I pulled right up next to the exact same black SE as mine. He had four people in the car, and I had a friend of mine in the passenger seat, but it was go time. Obviously I took him fairly easily, but it was great opening it up. I hit around 120 with plenty left, not smart at 2:30am on Central Expressway here in Dallas, but f it, there weren't any other cars around so we handled business. That was my first race in about 4 years since I got rid of the Mustang. Fun Stuff.
I can't stop staring at my headlights. Or my tails. And my rims when they're brakedust-free. Love em.
Interior? I love the look of the black leather and the titanium accents around the car. The set up of the radio and AC controls looks like this cool Aiwa stereo that a friend of mine has. This car's interior is definitely not dated yet, and won't be for a while.
Complaints:
My gas mileage. Damn!!! I drive a fair amount, 50/50 highway/city. I used to be able to get 350 miles off a tank in my old Maxima. My first tank of gas I had to fill up at 275 miles at one tick above E. I think I'm probably getting around 20-21mpg in this thing. I was under the impression that I would be getting the same fuel efficiency in this car as I did my old Max, but apparently not. Not to worry though, that engine is definitely worth it.
The Bose.
What on earth happened to this stereo? My stereo doesn't sound anywhere near as good as the BOSE in my GLE. The bass from that sub doesn't sound very clear, it's less punchy and more boomy. And of course I have that rattling problem in the back. The highs and clarity are not up to par with the old stereo. I have the treble maxed and it's still nowhere near what I had in my old one. I have some old stereo equipment that I'm thinking about throwing in this car to remedy the situation. But then I'm going to have some car audio salesman trying to convince me to get rid of my head unit which I have no plan of doing.
All in all, I'm enjoying the heck out of this car. Everytime I get in it, it's like "awww yeah. what time is it?!" I have washed it two time this week in addition to the dealer's detail job. I have problems. lol. That phase will pass though and I will be able to handle looking at dirty rims and grey tires. My friends now give me crap because I have altezzas. They more than respect the ride though. For a 26 year old single, male, this car rocks.

Sweet!
I just went over 1000 miles with my 2k2 Sterling Mist SE, and I know how you feel. This car is DA BOMB!
I agree with some of your complaints as well. I have to fill up twice a week, but I think it might have more to do with the weather and interior heating than the engine.
The Bose speakers don't sound all that great. But I didn't have much choice since fully loaded SE's WITHOUT Bose are impossible to find. After some cosmetic mods and 3M Clear Bra, I'll replace the stock sound system.
Overall, you won't find a better car for the price. This car kicks ***.
Enjoy the ride!

Congrats
The 2k2 Max is a sweet ride. I don't do much aggressive driving (only when needed
, reason why I get a bit over 20mpg (300+ miles per tankful) with mine. Didn't get the Bose. You should get all-season rubber mats and use them on top of your carpeted ones to protect them... Looking at your interior pics, you need them.

Re: First week impressions of my 2K2 SE
I have noticed the MPG being a little off on mine too. I think that may be because the car is still breaking in and the colder weather (Chicago)...I expect it only to get better.
About the BOSE...I find that is helps big time if you set the bass to 0 and the treble to the max. I have not experienced any of the rattles and I think it sounds pretty good...definitely room for improvement, but I am happy with it.
Your car looks great, welcome to the club!!

Just went over 1000 miles on my new black SE. I'm getting close to 400 miles on a full tank of gas, but I'm in Denver which might make a difference. I've got 27% tint and a 3M fully wrapped front end, and the car turns heads whereever I go. I'm married, but strange women are always complimenting me on my car.
Hello TellschMax02, what part of Chicago are you from? I lived on the northside (Roger's Park) and Evanston. I'll be moving back to Illinois for college soon, so maybe you could help me. What are the laws regarding window tint in Illinois?
Chance, did you buy your Max at John Elway, or Tynan's?

Hey guys,
I just got my 2k2 SE yesterday. Loved the ride. Anyways, can somebody pleaes let me know that the 3M clear mask is? It sounds like a great addition to the car. If possible, pleaes provide a picture or link. Thanks in advance.

Here is some info on window tint laws in Illinois...
CANNOT tint the front windshield or the front driver/passenger side windows.
CAN tint the rear driver/pasenger side windows and the rear window up to 50%.
Here is site that may help you out...

I don't know why ppl are complaining about the bose system...
Sounds fine to me, then again i'm not an audiophile.. Try playing classical music on it, so far it seems like the best stock system i've ever heard. then again, i dont turn it all the way up, hurts my ears. I don't think it was ever designed for mega bumpin bass.. I get compliments all the time from people sitting in my car, "Wow, is this the stock audio system?"
I dunno, are the components different in the 2k2 vs the 2k-2k1?
I think since it's more or less a sporty grocery getter nissan didn't feel the need to put in a system that would rattle your teeth...
Maybe I'm just happy I'm not driving an accord anymore =)

I agree, classical music sounds great with the Bose. It's not a bad system, it's just not that great for what you pay for. The Bose certainly fulfills the needs of your average family with 2.5 kids and a dog. But for audiophiles who listen to other types of music (Hip-Hop, House, Trance, etc.), the $800(?) would be better spent on aftermarket equipment. Just my .02 cents.
Congrats on the new car. My 2K2 SE 6-speed/HLSD/Nav is a week old and has 450 miles on it. I love the car. I came from a '99 SE automatic which I loved dearly, and this new car is like my '99 on steroids. I don't have any real complaints yet except that on the 6-speed, the memory seats do not slide out of the way automatically as they do on the automatic. The torque is monstrous on this car, and with the HLSD it bites like a rear-wheel-drive. When I show people the Nav system their jaws just DROP. They are amazed.
I have 2 cars - one is the Max, the other is a 12-year-old Olds Delta-88 automatic!!! (Quite a difference, right?) I keep the Olds around to save mileage on the new car, and to have a car to drive in the rain, snow, sleet, etc. I haven't driven the old bomb in a week because the Max is just too much fun.

nice site, greg...you've got lots of good pics on there. i wish i had seen those before i got my car. not that it wouldn't changed anything, i just always had a hard time finding good interior pics. i'm digging that delta-88 though. thinking about maybe trading in the max and picking one of those up. bench seats are underrated!
I got my 2K2 Majestic Blue yesterday after switching up from a 2K1 (not sure why or how it happened yet though). I got the leather interior option from the dealer so I didn't have to get the Bose system and also has the electric moonroof option too.
So far, not much difference apart from the annoying delay in the lights switching off when you have them set for AUTO. Even after you have switched off the ignition, closed the doors, set the alarm and even had time to go in your front door.....they eventually go out. Kinda strange, I liked the 2k1 in that respect, but boy are the new lights clear. It's like driving in permanent flourescent lighting
Not as impressed with the dealership though. Small scratches on the car, a blown front speaker and today we discovered that we did not have an inspection sticker and have been avoiding police all day. Oh and the valet and second set of keys are for a different car! They need to do some *** kissing.
I can't wait until I've done the 1000 miles to really open her up. I was kinda sad to see the old one go as I began to drive it hard once I knew it was going. I had fun in it for the last week.
Love the color too. Fuel consumption 19mpg, but mainly city driving so far.

Just finished our 1st week w/ a majestic blue 2k2 SE, 6spd. Absolutely love the car. Been getting about 21 mpg in suburban driving. Shifter is a bit notchy on the 2 to 3 upshifts. Just learning how to shift this car smooth, since the clutch on our old '89 Integra, catches high, while the Max catches low. Hopefully won't run on into those clutch and 6spd problems others have had on the board. I don't beat on clutches anyway, got 115K miles out of one on a '89 Civic Si; still going strong when I sold it. Still have the original clutch in the Integra, 13 years and 93k miles later. Only slight disappointment is the high end on the Bose Stereo. Not as crisp as I would like. Haven't noticed the buzzing sub yet, but I listen mostly to jazz anyway. Bought this car over the Altima. Like the Altima, but fell for the Maj. Blue with black interior Max. Once I got in the interior and drove the car, I liked it a whole lot better than the Altima. Much quieter inside, and better interior materials much better guage cluster. I wasn't planning on buying a Maxima but got much more car for my money than I would have w/ the Altima. Plus none of those 1st year bugs to worry about.
