I getting ready to change my tranny oil to redline and I have some questions. Do I have to buy a flush kit to get the old tranny oil out? Can I mix the redline with the old tranny oil if I didn't do a flush? Also how often should I be changeing the tranny oil?

i don't think you really need to flush it. just locate the fill plug first, remove it, then locate the drain plug, drain the old fluid out, and put the redline in. you might need some sort of funnel attached to a garden hose to make the filling process easier.

i think maximas don't require changing manual tranny oil at all. it won't hurt though, especially if you're using redline, you'll have smoother shifts

 

So mixing synthetic with factory gear lube will not cause any weird reactions?

 

well i'm having the repair shop change my tranny fluid out, so I dunno. But I haven't heard anyone on here say that you need to actually flush out the old fluid completely, so I think it should be fine if you just drain it and put the redline fluid in.

 

There won't be any issues with mixing synthetic and conventional fluids. Changing your tranny fluid is as easy as changing your engine oil.

 

Anyone got a picture of where the fill plug is? I can't find it on my 96 SE 5sp.
