Are relays dealer only?

Just wondering if you can only buy relays from the dealer. Also how can you test to see if a relay is good, I got the instructions from the Haynes Manula but not sure what they mean by "fused wire" or something like that. How much are relays from the dealer? Thanks.

No answer?

I am wondering the answers to these questions as well. I think I have a problem with my horn relay and don't know how to test it or where to get a new one.

Thanks

Very seldom do relays go out. If they do, you can get relays just about anywhere. A relay is a relay is a relay. I bought the relay for the fogs at pepboys when I converted mine and installed factory fogs on my GLE. You may want to check things out before settling on the relay being your culprit. Post/search the problem and see if you can get other diagnosing ideas.

When I suspect a bad relay I swap it out with another relay of the same type and see if the problem changes. The next thing I do is check out the circuitry with a meter. I check such things as resistance, voltage, etc... At that point the only thing left is using a scope such as a Tektronic if you have access to one. Last thing is to buy a relay. In over 10 years of Maxima ownership experience I have never had to replace a relay.

Agreed! In the 14 years Ive been installing alarms, remote starts,radios,amps,etc...I have yet to need to replace a relay.
