Just blew a 97-2000 hooked Camry

AHHH just got home at about 12:00 am and i feel good cuz i just smoked a camry on the highway and then on the street. I met him going onto rte. 95 i cruised with him for about 3 seconds and then i saw him stare and right then we both floored it. It took about 3 seconds for me to smoke em and leave him behind(thank god for maxima auto trannies late shift into 3rd.)from there on it was in and out of traffic and it became a matter of driving not a faster car. so he went out of his way and got out on my exit. we both got caught at a red light so it was time for some dragging. Camrys suck *** cuz this dude had a stick and he couldnt handle my auto. so he speed off first but it only took about 50 mph to gun by him. so i put on my flashing hazard lights put my hand out the window and waved goodbye as i speed away and i let him know he can't handle the ol'Max. specs: greddy exhaust-stillen intake-stock 5spokes on Yoko's Camry might of had some sort of catback and i'm pretty sure i heard and intake roar and it had some 17 or 18 inch racers.

even tho it feels good to beat someone, you gotta think that you were racing a 4 banger. not a fair race, plus you have mods.....just a little opinion.

was it a black camry with fogs? i know that's soo common but i know a guy who actually worked at the dealership i bought my max from who had a decent looking camry like that. he had other stuff done but you prolly didn't see at night. i'm pretty sure he lives around the area you're from and were driving so...anything unique about the car besides wheels?

nice kill btw...

I forgot to mention that next to where it sayed Camry XLE it also said V6 so yeah it was kinda fair plus if he was runnin a 4 banger he shouldna tested me so either way it's fair.

actually this camry was white with beige bottom and i'm in rhode island i didn't think youd know where i'm from by me mentioning rte. 95. well that does narrow it down to lets say the entire east coast

yeah i checked out your profile to check, i know 95 goes all along the coast so i wanted to make sure. that's cool though, there's nothing like a race with someone who acts like they can take you and you let them have it. as long as your being safe of course.
also, let me know if there are any upcoming meets near you cuz i'm not too far from you.

Good reasoning- but yeah, if he wants to try then you gotta show him he's making a mistake

A V6 5 speed camry should have burned you, they are every bit as fast as a 5 speed 4th gen.

If memory serves me correct, there's no such thing as a manual V6 XLE Camry in that gen. I thought (and kbb.com seems to agree, but it wouldn't be the first time they were wrong) the only V6 manual was the LE.

my previous car was a Camry Deluxe (the cheap one with no power windows and locks) and i turned it into an "XLE" by putting some leather in it and getting some power windows and what not. it was a nice little project cuz i had to make some modifications but point is i just bought the XLE emblem and put it on. thats when i was an idiot though once you go maxima theres no coming back

Yea, and there's always the chance someone did a 5-speed swap or something drastic like that...but that kind of spirit isn't usually seen in people that drive Camrys.

From what I know, style-wise and quality-wise, it seems the 5-speed V6 LE coupe camry from that generation was a pretty nice car, albeit pretty darn rare (I think they made somewhere around ~5,000 of them?)
Would be a cool kinda-rare "drivers car" to own, like an all-trac celica or a third-gen RX-7 (heh...but then again, around here, even MY car, being a 4th-gen SE 5-speed with all factory options, is one of those 'kinda-rare' cars).

There is no XLE v6. However this guy coulda put a XLE and V6 badge very easily. It coulda been a 4 cyl with a manny tranny.

5 speed v6's only came in CE I believe.

I dont think there was any 5 speed offered those years with a v6 regardless of model...but then again maybe that is only in canada....

You could get a Camry CE V6 5spd. I test drove one before I got the Max in 1998.

Pretty damn quick. Roasted up 2nd pretty good on the test drive before the saleswoman yelled at me... hehe.. But the rubbery shifter and super floaty suspension really didn't encourage you to go fast...

Car and Driver also tested one.

Quality wise-yep style wise nope!my mom has a 97 Camry-have you seen the interior of those camrys they are terrible it looks like a dash out of an 88 or something. the radio is the same design as my previous 92 Camry and it so plain and simple. I guess they spent all their money and time designing and engineering the engine cuz they did a damn good job. they still need some improvement in the interior styling.
