WRX VS MY 01 5 speed this morning

I was crusing down the Palisades Interstate Parkway NY this morning in the 4th gear, doing 45-55 mph and all of a sudden i looked in my rear view mirrow and i saw a white WRX loaded with some Chinese dudes coming from behind with a speed and wanted to pass me on the left. My first action was, i dropped into 3rd gear in no time and floored my gas pedal and the WRX was making some shiffy noises from the engine and exhaust and couldn't pass me for a long stretch, until i had to slow down, because of a slow car in front of me. I'm not sure how the WRX would do on the top end, but the low end i busted one today...with just a K & N drop in air filter. Who else out there raced the WRX??? I wanna race one again, but on a track next time .

never raced one, but have a friend who has one. Those things are sporty and real fast. 0-60 in the high 5's. I think a max would get burned but i'm not certain. watch out for those shady chinese dudes...u dunno what they could be up to. haha i should know

ya ur not joking about that, u shady chinese dudes really do some insane tweaks to cars. i swear if u want ur car to be fast give it to a chinese,or japanese guy with some skills in tuning and they will do a better job then any1. a friend of mines eclipse GSX had the ECU tweaked out by some "shadey chinese dude" and that thing beat a stock 97 M3 and we had 4 people in the car. everything else was stock! i give u guys props though ull find power in the weirdest places possible.
i want my car tweaked by a chinese mechanic too! ill get like 40hp increase and still have the same setup, and they wont tell u what was done, damnit thats anoying but im not complaining. peace.

its all about taking something basic and making it powerful. yea there are MANY ricers out there, too many civics and sh*t. Some good some bad... [edit]

2k2 are no different from 2k3 engine-wise tho, just cosmetic...i thought

2K2's and 2K3's are the same

maybe your confusing the 2k3's with the 2k4's?

almost the same, but The 3.5-liter DOHC V6 also features a silent timing chain and electronically controlled throttle (drive-by-wire). Standard mechanical features also include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Brake Assist with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD).

The WRX will beat u off the line (all wheel drive), but I think that full 1/4 mile it would be a close race it all depends on the driver, and how good your take off is

WRX's typically put down 170hp to the wheels. They have weak top end and strong low and midrange power due to the boxer engine design. Most modified WRX's that run ET's of 13.0-13.5 trap less than 100 mph. The extra passengers you talked about being in the Scooby really hurt his acceleration. BTW, does anyone know what a stock 2000 Max lays down on the dyno?

I dont think the 1/4 13-13.5 is accurate, I would agree with high 13 low 14 but low 13 thereis just no way that stock subaru will run that

No no no I meant modified WRX's. The stock WRX runs anywhere from 14.2 to 14.4. I was just giving an example of the quickness of the WRX but the lack of top end.

eh....i got owned by one...a white one lowered....some kind of STI spoiler...volk wheels...slanted N1 style exhaust...we pulled up to the stop light..both of us with our systems up.....i revved on him with my franken car...he reved on me..and oh god..i heard the fircest sounding blow off valve...sounded like a room full of cats and rocking chairs...just the hissing sound was intimidating..i gave it my all...with just a little wheelspin in first..chirp 2nd...but still..he was already ahead of me..and gaining..i didnt even bother to catch up at 60 mph.

i'm not a mechanic...

but i do know all timing chains are technically silent chains. They were designed that way to reduce a lot of slop and plus drive their gears silently. They are mechanically different than your typical bicycle or motorcycle chain.

Wouldn't the fact that this 4-banger was loaded with people make him a lot slower? Were you driving alone? My 87 DOHC Pulsar was noticeably slower with a couple of passengers, at least off the line.

Re: Re: WRX VS MY 01 5 speed this morning

I'm sure you're already aware of this, but a WRX is not a regular 4 banger....But sure he would be slower than he normally would be due to the weight.

True dat! For less than $1K these boosted guys can gain like 40hp to the wheels!

They're fun cars...I just don't care for the boy-racer looks and the interior. I really love the Maxima's blend of Lux and Performance.
