Auto tranny, fuel delivery question

i've got an automatic 2k gxe with 85k miles. i plan to build a single stage system based on parts from http://nitrous.info and a controller loosely based on this project: http://www.kwantlen.bc.ca/electech/F...al-Project.pdf

when you shift in a manual tranny car, you pickup your gas foot when shifting, which would cut the nitrous flow on a system that required WOT to activate...

my concern on an automatic is about how the computer controls engine revs between shifts. does it momentarily drop flow through the fuel injectors? i am assuming it doesn't actually change the throttle position, so a throttle position switch (part of the setup i plan to implement for controlling nitrous/fuel delivery) wouldn't actually cut nitrous flow during the shift.

so if you have the same amount of air flowing through the intake, the same amount of nitrous (50 shot), the same amount of supplemental fuel (wet setup), but only a small fraction of the normal flow through the injectors, how do you prevent detonation when the computer cuts fuel to shift?

my original plan was to use the board mentioned above to run a switch based on engine speed, inline with a WOT microswitch, inline with a master arming switch.

should i be concerned about cutting nitrous flow at the moment shifts occur?

any info is greatly appreciated.

You can get a RPM window switch to control which between which RPMS you want to spray. Mine's set from 3400-6300 so it won't spray during the shift...

I spray during shifts.

I must commend you on trying to build your nitrous system, not too many people have done that, some people even get a shop to install their system.

Be careful, the url's I have read that you supplied, seem to be directed toward carburated cars the requirements for EFI systems are quite different.

It took NX a long time to design a nozzle that would work properly without puddling etc etc. It took until just a couple of months ago for NOS and ZEX to copy it and I'm still not sure how they have done because I don't know of anyone who has installed their wet kit.

Keep us informed of your progress.

I'm not sure I follow you. The engine typically is inside the 3400-6300 window when it shifts... shifts tend to happen between 6000 and 6500 when at WOT... and as the shift happens, the revs drop down a couple thousand RPM, so your RPM-based switch is still open during that time, no?

Jim,

Thanks for the info. I was afraid the first time I got on the bottle with my setup it would blow on the first shift... heh heh...

Nothing to be comended for yet... I will let you know how it goes!

I still have to sell my mustang before I can do all this stuff. I am going to put on a budget y and b pipe, and a dynomax super turbo muffler first, then the controller, then the actual plumbing.

now I just need to find a place to lift a fire extinguisher 8^)
