Who has blown their engine? Adding it to a daily driver?
I have never been to this forum before. I have always thought that I would stay with only bolt ons. I am interested in learning about nitrous and making a decision after I know a good bit. I read some of the FAQ and decided that I would probably start with a 50 shot and maybe down the road, bump it up.
Has anyone here blown their engine??? If I want to race once about every 2 weeks and run nitrous will that be terrible for my car??? I drive my car everyday and I dont want to run into any major problems...is nitrous not for me if I am this tentative???
If it is setup right will my engine last 160,000+ miles???
Thanks in advance. This is honestly a subject that I know very little about.

I have run up to a 150 shot. Do I run this every time I go to the track? No. I race about 12 races a year and run a 35 shot which give me a respectable 13.3-13.5 time. I still want to see how quick I can get this year but I am not into blowing up my engine to find out, it will be a slow and hopefully well thought out climb up the ladder.
My main aim right now is to get my car the fastest I can N/A and then hopefully it will also be faster on juice. There is no sense making run after run on juice trying different things with suspension, intakes, exhaust etc when doing it N/A will tell you the same thing or give you a good indication if its working.
Last year I started with a 16.2 second automatic and this year I am down to a 14.8 so far and still working on it.

Any mod that increases HP puts more strain on the engine components. Will it blow the engine? Depends on how carried away you get and how much instrumentation and tuning you get and do.

Seems to me like as long as I have enough fuel I should be okay...am I right?

So Jime. Say I run a 50 shot about every 2 weeks for about 3 runs each time. How dangerous would you say this is? granted I have it installed professionally and they do a good job.

I have always thought that an intake like a Stillen Hi-Flow intake, on the contrary, eases up the engine by having a freer flowing of air. Or am I wrong?

Regardless an intake or pretty much any other N/A HP making mod is pretty minimal and inmho not considered to reduce engine life in any measurable fashion.

Personally, I've been running nitrous for almost a year(50/60shot) problem free. I check my plugs constantly, I always monitor my gauges, and I tune my fuel pressure to the best of my abilities.
I make about 4-8 1/4mi runs a week both on and off the bottle. My cylinder compression measurements are almost exactly the same over stock. You can wear out your engine with a turbo or supercharger just as fast as you can with nitrous. It's really all about being smart and patient enough to know your engines limitations and don't try and push it if you're strapped for time or cash. Patience and proper tunning is key with anything.
