I'm sure 99% of us go to our local speedshops to get nitrous fillups. Unfortunately for me, I live in the SF bayarea and the closest speedshop for me charges $5/lb! The next closest speedshop (~30min away) still charges $4.50 or $4.75. I'm envious of those of you who pay $3/lb of nitrous (and $1.70/gal or whatnot of 92 octane).

Is there ANY way I can obtain nitrous outside of my local speedshop (i.e. medical grade (I doubt I can get this one legally) or industrial grade)? These $50 bottle fillups that I'm currently paying really suck. =P

Go to the source. A welder supply company that they buy from. A 75 pound tank is about $125 here in Charlotte plus rental fees. But you still must have the pump to get the most out of the tank and only expect to get a maximum of 60 pounds out of the tank. Those shops that sell Nitrous for $3 or $3.50 a pound are just breaking even in total expenses.
