NA/Nitrous Idea

Everyone knows that once nitrous is installed, 1 or 2 step colders plugs are a must. However, I have been thinking what if we get a jwt ecu with a special program that would retart enough timing under nitrous and would allow us to use normal heat range plugs while NA instead of having to run colder plugs. What do you guys think?

The JWT ECU program does retard timing while spraying

Why not have it retart to a point where colder plugs are not needed and have the best performance possible while off the juice?

but then wont it also be retarting during regular driving(NA) also? wouldnt that be bad for engine? or atleast retarting it to such a degree for daily NA driving? and wouldnt it also interfere with the KS...

im full of questions tonight!

The JWT ECU will advance your timing while not spraying. The nitrous daughterboard is an add on. So that way, you have advanced timing for NA use, and retarded timing for when you are spraying. Think of it like two modes

I'm sure you'd still need the colder plugs...however, for N/A gains, you can try getting the JWT ecu w/advanced timing (w/o the nitrous program) and use the J&S Safeguard to retard timing when spraying. I'm pretty sure the JWT nitrous program is set for a specific "shot". Once you up or lower the shot, the tuning will be off.

Yeah, the JWT is set up for a 65 shot standard. When you up the shot, it's necessary for a new fuel pump and an adjustable FPR.

does JWT charge extra for the nitrous program? ... if they do it would prolly be cheaper than the J&S safegaurd.

a DUH question... how does ECU know when you are spraying?

It comes with a switch. Flip the switch, as soon as you WOT, it starts spraying

are u talking about the nitrous itself or the ECU?

You will definitely have to pay extra for the nitrous program in addition to the N/A program. Money wise, it's cheaper than the J&S...but once you change the shot, the nitrous program will be "untuned". However, I have witnessed a dyno of the JWT nitrous ECU on a 240...a/f was a straight line 12.5 across the board. PERFECT.

I'd give up adjustability on the shot for the tuning that already comes with the ECU

Isnt the perpose of retarting timing to decrease the temps inside the engine and colder plugs do the say. Thus when the ecu is in NA mode we can run stock plugs with all the NA computer goodies, however when we switch to n2o mode on the ecu it retarts enought timing to achieve the same result as colder plus. Is this possible or not?

^ Thats the impression that I'm getting from all of the imformation posted in this thread. All in all, it sounds like quite a safe way to run nitrous, especially since its already tuned for you.

You don't need to run colder plugs untill you get to a 100 shot anyways.

I run 2 steps colder N/A and it doesn't hurt my performance, so I am not a good guy to ask. Everyone has different experiences and opinions and the funny part is we all could be right.
