18 degree timing and 75 shot

I had my car timming raised sometime ago to 17/18 degrees. I purchased a ued dry Zex kit. Do I need to decrease the timing or what is the highest I can run with the 75 shot safely.

i would recomend lowering the timing as a precaution. a lot of timing and nitrous don't mix very well.

put timing back to stock, and put some race gas, that will take care of detonation

Dont worry about it, the timing advance does nothing at WOT, hence the reason you guys feel the same at WOT. Most of you noticed after the advanced that the car felt faster under normal driving; that is because the consult raised the timing under closed loop tuning. I dont think we can change open loop tuning(WOT) without a piggyback ro ECU upgrade.

That's what I thought. I've been told, with advanced timing under spray would be ok to roll with.

Is that True Jime, Then why do nitrous companys require timing retard before use..

Did you not read my post at all? The Consult does not advance timing at WOT. I hope you're not using Nitrous when you are not at WOT.

He's probably trying to get a second opinion. I believe you and trust the viable info, with all the different things everyone is saying about nitrous and timing, it's easy to lose track of what may be factual information and what may not. I know your rep here, and the credibility of your information.

I am not sure about the timing not being affected at WOT, I was always under the impression it was. Obviously the KS pulls timing at WOT, Mine has always been stock. It shows approx 17-20 at WOT according to OBDII reader.

Nitrous manuf's always say back off the timing, but because its not easy with a Max or expensive for the hardware I use race fuel instead (114 unleaded). Make sure its unleaded or you can toast your o2 sensors. I have a 1 gal fuel cell so I use 114 for the nitrous setup and pump gas (94) through the injectors, so the percentage of mixture is variable according to the shot I am using. ie 100 hp shot to approx 225 from engine.

Detonation has to be controlled but there is more than one way to do it.

This is from an expert I usually listen to.

"Timing Retard-A nitrous/fuel mixture increases the burn rate in the cylinder, and typically adding a few degrees of timing retard is recommended for safety. A rule of thumb is two degrees per 50hp of nitrous, but this will also reduce the power generated. When I tune my system, I monitor engine knock, and retard the timing only enough to eliminate the knock, which is usually about one degree per 50hp. At the track, under harder conditions (actually pulling the weight of the car, possibly higher outdoor temperatures, etc) I'll add a degree of retard.

High Octane Fuel-High octane gas (e.g. 100 or more, unleaded) will also slow the burn rate in the cylinder. This will provide another way, similar to retarding timing, to avoid knock. I only use nitrous on a 50/50 mix of 92 octane pump gas and 100 octane racing gas. Make sure it's unleaded, of course, or you'll destroy your O2 sensors."

i also just baight a 50 shot, and my timming is at 17 deg right now. by the posts in this thread, it seems like there are mixed feelings about it. so is it safe to leave my timming at 17 deg?
