I'm thinking about installing a nitrous system in the maxima. I have a Technosquare ECU (not a JWT). I know most people say not to install any nitrous in a car with advanced timing, but I was talking to some people and they said that if I only put in like a 75 shot, I shouldn't run into any problems. Is there anything else I should be really careful about before entering into the world of nitrous? Any advice on brands? Should I get a bottle warmer or any other accessories?

 

My advice is to do as much research as possible before even going with a 75 shot. Read through the FAQs in this forum. A bottle pressure gauge and heater are NOT optional. You must have them in order to properly spray nitrous.

This is very important... you must use stock timing when spraying a 75 shot! With the VQ30, you may even experience a little detonation with the 75 shot if you have stock timing and plugs. So, advanced timing is a BIG BIG 'no no'. Also, you will need to get at least 1 step colder spark plugs. If you have plans to go above a 75 shot, 2 steps colder will probably be needed.

Your best bet is to contact Technosquare, tell them about your plans to spray a 75 shot. Hopefully, they will be able to rig up a switchable program so that you can switch back to the stock fuel and timing programs so that you can spray nitrous. If you spray a 75 shot with the advance timing and leaner fuel map with 93 octane, there is no doubt in my mind that you will detonate and you may even hurt your motor.

I hope this information is useful. And I hope Technosquare will be able to rig up a switchable program for you. That is the sweetest setup. That is the setup I have on my 92 SE, just not Technosquare.

As far as brands, the best as far as a wet kit is the Nitrous Express Kit. But the best bang for the buck is the Dynotune kit. Very good quality and they have great customer support.

When you're ready for the bottle, just let us know. We'll help you put it in correct and make sure you're running safely. Get at least 1 step colder plugs. A bigger fuel pump 190lph can be had if you move up in shot, but not necessary for you starting out. See you at the next dinner.

I'd have to say that I prefer dynotune over nx The quality and ingenuity of dynotune's products is awesome and my nx purge solenoid just fried recently for no reason at all.

 

I have the Dynotune Kit myself and am completely satisfied.

What do you mean the solenoid fried? Does it do anything when you throw 12v to it? If not, then the coil needs to be replaced. I believe NX has a lifetime warranty on their solenoids. It may or may not include the coil. If it's fairly new, I'm sure they will replace it.

One thing I should point out with my Dynotune Kit. I have a kit I didn't even purchase from Dynotune directly. I got it from another Maxima member. I contact Dan at Dynotune about a problem I'm having with intermittent surging. Dan sends me a new fuel and nitrous solenoid 'no questions asked' to help me diagnose the problem. It turned out to be either a bad nitrous fill or debris in the feedline. The problem was solve on the next nitrous refill when I also installed a nitrous filter. But that just says a lot about their customer service!

 

The coil is fried and it wasn't due to wiring. I will try to get it replace, but it is a fairly old solenoid...
