Today is the tuning day and late registration for the "Week" - tomorrow is the first day of the competition. I understand that more classes have been opened this year, so I might even have a chance to compete in the future.

More plumbing and wiring done today. I have everything installed now, but when going through a complete system checkout, I ran into a couple of problems. Both-6AN 24" hoses that connect both bottles to a Y-connector in the trunk, before going up front through a 3-layer hose leaked when I connected a bottle. I managed to find one spare, which held a seal and let me test the purge. I need to order two replacements ASAP.
I swapped in the KramRam intake module, finished mounting the purge plumbing, insulated the fuel and nitrous lines and drain and purge lines with pretty plastic hoses, and I was hoping to drive the whole package tonight, but not enough parts.

Here's a link to the faster run of the day that I saw. I took random photos and a few videos. The wind was blowing so hard that the audio is messed up. You should be able to view the entire album....
Look at the white Corvair closely... and the really fast orange car is a 240Z with GM power.

Tonight I finished qualifying the whole nitrous system. I removed the direct port feeds and connected to a Shank nozzle w/75-shot jets, which was mounted in an OEM elbow so I could see what happened. After I installed a fresh bottle, I ran the engine up over 3,000 (low end of window) and manually operated the WOT switch with first the nitrous solenoid connected, sprayed that, switched to the fuel solenoid and sprayed that, then hooked up both and watched the spray! Put everything back together until tomorrow.
Then it's rock-and-roll.
Then it's rock-and-roll.

Let me know how the test session goes.

Well, then, ain't you lucky? Earlier today I had installed and warmed up a bottle to 1000psi, then cocked and locked the nitrous system - and went for a drive. I found an on-ramp with some clear space so rolled up to 5K in second gear and went WOT. The tires immediately broke loose, slammed into third gear and was topping 90MPH before I let up on the throttle. Daymn...
I'm going to KCIR for the Friday night Grudge event. I gotta shake this car down some more before any road trips. Woops - I just checked the KC weather for Friday and there are serious rain chances for the day and evening. I guess I'll decide about this time tomorrow if I'm going. Rats... There's a good chance of rain in Tulsa on Saturday and Sunday, I see. Another IFO shut down by rain? I'm not going if rain chances are high - I hate towing in the rain.
Anyway, the single 75-shot seems to work...

I'm more interested in how full-power shifts are gonna work - I don't want to touch the rev limiter before shifting - that really hammers a transmission, so finding the right set points for shifts is one goal. I also need to remove the cut-nitrous-while-shifting feature of the Shift_Fast3 (note to myself).
With the 2800-stall converter, I don't expect hard launches. If everything else works, I should be into 4th gear before the traps. If things do work right otherwise, then it's time for the 4K IPT converter. Then the NX Maximizer 3 can be installed so I can burn some more VP 109, then the NX fuel cell for E85 for the nitrous, then.....
EDIT: I think I'll put on the 23" x 8.5" slicks instead of the 24.5" x 8.5" M&Hs. That might help the launch. Gotta remember to disable the 4th gear torque converter lockup, too.

I really do need to figure out a safe way to make wide-angle videos - that doesn't require me to do anything other than stage. Being old and all, I need to focus really hard to get a good launch and survive to get to the shutdown area.

Not now - the transmission barfed last night. I confirmed another problem I thought I was having - the engine bogs on launch at 3K. The nitrous system worked perfectly at the 75-shot level, but traction was a problem. Slicks: M&H 23" x 8.5" x 15" on 8" AR wheels.
No, I'm not posting times - this was another experiment - off and on the throttle.
I'm going to get the car off the trailer today and confirm the problem with the tranny.

On the last run, I pushed it in 2nd gear and went through the traps while it shifted into 4th gear - which was normal. After going back on the return road, I cleared the Shift_Fast back to first gear, but it didn't feel right - then went back to the trailer, and it acted like it was stuck in 3rd gear. I was able to drive up the ramps and load the car, thanks to the 2800-stall converter, but it's definitely hurt. If the rain stops, I'll unload the car and check things, like the oil...
But - I'm sure now that the 4K converter is a good idea for racing.

I "fixed" the transmission - actually discovered a bad fuse to the Shift_Fast so that no voltages were going to the transmission solenoids, which defaults to third gear... Took it for a short drive and all is good. The last pass at KCIR was a lot slower, but the bottle was below 1/2 full, and that's where liquid turns into more gas than liquid. Purge looked weak before, really puny after that run.
I'm going to order in the NX Maximizer and get started with that project. I have jets for 150-shot already, so that's a good place to start. I wonder - if I use the throttle-position setting, if I program it for 50-shot (25%) at 50% throttle and set 100% at 100% throttle, maybe I can bypass the launch bog - or just install the 4K converter and go for it. Yeah, that's the ticket. Then the 250-shot jets

The Maximizer has been ordered from Summit. Now I gotta figure out how to get a NX SAFE tank to replace the battery so I can spray E85 with the nitrous, which means that the battery has to go somewhere else.
I wonder - should I run the entire car on E85, so no special nitrous tank?
I connected a laptop to my consult port to run ECUTalk, and I see that the injectors are running with about 5.5ms pulses, which means I have plenty of extra injector capacity with the G35 injectors.
Gotta think about this for a while - but I'll install the Maximizer and run it with the 75-shot using race fuel - VP 109 - and get that much working. The NX tank and NHRA batery box with cables and switch is around another $1,000, so maybe the E85 experiment is worth trying? $3.50 vs $15.00 per gallon?

That's gonna take some tuning though. I wonder if the tape can handle it.

the Tape RULES! Besides, I use Gorilla tape - it never comes off..... Actually, with E85 I would need less tape, since I would need 20% more fuel.
Funny - the ECUTalk program shows me pulling over 50* advance when blipping the throttle in the driveway. And recovering from the blip, it idles around 8* I really don't trust the stock ECU or any piggyback that offsets the ECU timing. Hmmmm.. maybe the Haltech Sports 2000 ??? There is a Haltech dealer in Wichita KS.....

I want to see this ECU talk program you speak of, in the first weekend of october, maybe my car could use some tape tuning

You'll need an A/F meter to Tune-with-Tape, you know.... I remember that you were looking for an ECU - have you found anything more about Haltech's stuff?

Look here - it's free! but you'll need a cable....

Some cool stuff for you would be...
-Staged injection control for multiple injectors per cylinder (including rotary)
-Aux fuel pump control
-Open or closed loop boost control ( Road speed, RPM or gear based mapping)
-Custom sensor calibration (Use your own sensors for temps or fuel/oil pressure etc)
-Torque converter lock up
-Nitrous switching with fuel / ignition correction

Yes, the PS2000 is the cheapest solution for me, and it has all of the gadgets and features a nut like you would need!!!

Now the boost control may come in handy next season - that Holset HE-351-Ve in my garage is feeling neglected.

It won't play at all w/ your ECU, you take yours out and punt it on I-70 somewhere.
It will accept any input and do with it whatever you tell it to, so if you wanted the car to honk when the second shot of nitrous is on, it could do that for you.
