Fogs: Replace PIAA 4th time or take HID plunge

Been loving PIAA xtreme whites for a while, but its almost every 2 years or so I have to replace them !! at $55 a pair its becoming annoying and expensive, and when ones goes out I buy them in pairs (for cost) and it seems the singles I have saved don't even work later after sitting in a box untill the next time i go to replace one.

Last week, i had about 4 PIAA singles I thought were in working condition, non of them lit up and, i thought it was a different issue, but i said let me try a stock one, and it lit up,

I never considered HID fogs because of glare, potentional problems with aftermarket hid ballasts (long term) and hokey dokey crap wiring and just beyond the deep end of a modification. But when I first came to that opinion it was when HIDs were just getting started and trendy in the aftermarket world, (2008) now a days i know they have come a long long way, which is good and still bad.

I just don't wanna be that guy with obnoxious glare. Any thoughts ? Not into retrofitting projectors, is that the only solution for taming HID fog glare.

Anyone have any nice matching halogen replacements to oem hid 4300k ??
I really liked sylvania ultras in other cars but of course they dont make ultras in h3, and ultras arent too far off from price of PIAA.

6k HID fogs were on the car when I bought it, but never had an issue. They're as bright as the headlights lol. I left them on all the time, too (wired to parking lights).

I wouldn't say they glared as much as they're just stupid bright coming from that little lens. As long as you weren't looking at them, then you're ok.

I agree 110% with above post, this is a no brainer, HID fo sho. One of my fave mods on my car so far.

Check your current housings and order some depot ones fro Amazon if they're shot (cracked).

I think the output is awesome. They light up the whole street alone lol. And no one can pull out in front of you and say, "I didn't see you."

I didn't modify my housings whatsoever nor do certain bulbs have a shield. Get the H3C (short nose) since the H3's are a bit longer and but up against the housing.

And the output is BA. I was also skeptical, but I'm 150% glad I did it. The housing is so small and the lights are pointed in such a way that you don;t screw other peeps vision. Also you know our fogs are adjustable.

I blind more people with my Pathy's yellow **** halogens than I do with my Maxima fogs, even less so since it's lowered.

Agreed ^^

I don't find mine glare much. I never get flashed and I run just my fogs on a regular basis. Though I have made sure they are not aimed high. I second h3c's are mandatory to avoid damage to bulb and reduce heat. Also, don't run anything other than 35w system. You will gain nothing from a 55w ballast than increased heat, increased glare, an decreased bulb life, as well as increased risk of cracking your glass housing.

I ran three pairs of Nokya bulbs before taking the plunge and installing 3k HIDs. They have been decent for the last two years but I did have a ballast fail after a year.

Once they fail again, I think I may check out the new generation of LED bulbs. I think they have progressed nicely within the last year and hopefully the price comes down.

having a ballast fail is like why i am hesitating so much... like bulbs going are one thing but now all that extra ****! just for a new fog color/light !

never took that plunge, and instead of getting xtreme white PIAAs at 55w this year i got these PIAA Platimun whites at 35w....hoping maybe wattage keeps them longer.
they are some rare old model, i cant find much info on the "platinum white" name under PIAA

6000k HID or bust! They're like an extra set of headlights. Wire them with running lights and enjoy.

I think I'll take that plunge. Already got the fogs wired in with the parking lights. Which Hid kit do you recommend on amazon?

There's a website that has decent quality kits with the harness and bulbs to fit halogen housings....if only I could remember the name.

so I got these PIAA's labeled Platinum White

compared to the Xtreme whites they were about 20$ cheaper and 35w vs 55w

i like them, and they match better than I thought at first. They are a hair off the true HID color but even Xtreme Whites were ( i think its almost impossible to perfectly match HID with halogen, but way better than stock,

will try to post a pic soon. but to anyone that loves the Xtreme Whites but wanna try something new for $20-25$ less definately go for it ! very comparable to Xtreme whites (these can also be found under the alias Super White)

Xtreme White = 4000k - 4100k
Platinum White (Super White) = 3800k

U can tell if u are being picky but after having them a couple weeks its a lot harder now to tell from the Xtreme Whites.

I'm also interested. A lot of the Platinum White links on Google are sketchy.
