Belt sqeaking...

Hey guys, my belt seems to be sqeaking whenever I put my heater or A/C on. Is my belt too tight or too loose? I'm not sure. Also, whenever I turn on my car in the mornings it seems to idle weird. If I move the steering wheel a little, the car's idle goes way low like if I am draining power out of the car. The car's idle goes up and down pretty hard. Does this have to do with the pulley as well? If anyone can help me out, LMK. Thanx!

I would suggest adjusting the tensioner pulley a bit more, a little at a time, to tighten the belt. You'll need a 14mm socket and a couple of extensions with your ratchet to reach the adjustment ****. Turn clockwise to tighten, counterclockwise to loosen the tension.

Sounds like a loose belt, tighten it up a bit a time like he just said.

I believe it could be that my belt is loose cuz whevever I downshift to a lower gear to get into high RPM's, the belt chirps. I will try tightening it up just a tad. I don't really want to tighten it too much cuz it already feels tight enough. I don't wamt a belt to snap, u know? Thanx guys!

ps. I was wondering as well...I have a 3.33 pulley but my boost gauge only reads up to 6 psi. Shouldn't I be having like at least 8 psi? I'm thinking that it's my boost gauge(autometer) but I'm not really sure. I don't have any bends on the nylon hose so I am guessing that 6psi is my peak. Could it be that my BOV is leaking air? I have a blitz SS so I am thinking that it shouldn't be leaking at all. Please let me know if u guys have any info on this cuz I want my gauge to be reading correctly. Thanx again guys!

I was like that too, thinking that it was tight enough, but as long as the belt keeps squealing that means its still a bit loose.

Is there a specific deflection (tension) to tighten it to? The Hyane manual says about 1/4 inch of deflection, but does this matter since there are more pullies?

Take your thumb and index finger and try to twist the section of belt that runs from the crank pulley to the AC compressor. It should twist no more than 90 degrees. With a small SC pulley I recomend up to ~67.5 degrees, but no more.

Its allways a good idea with the SC kit when you do new install or change your belt to use some degreaser like 409 and a tooth brush to clean all the pullies that the belt comes into contact with. This removes any contaminants the could cause the belt to slip or wear out faster. An ounce of prevention...

My belt is too tight after Thanksgiving! When I put A/C on it contracts and when I put heater on it expands so I feel more comfortable! Either way it doesn't affect the way my car drives!

Well guys, I tightened the belt just a little and guess what happened? My belt shredded!! So, now I have to take the whole thing apart again and I guess i'll have to change my pulley to a 3.125. What type or brand of belt is recommended for our cars? and what size belt should I get for my 3.125? if anyone has any info, let me know. Thanx!

~AC

ps. what fuel upgrade is recommended when a 3.125 pulley is installed?

When you install the new belt have someone start the car and make sure the belt is not coming off one of the pullies. A belt just does not shred on its own. the plate and the pulley has to have a perfect 90 degree angle. I am not trying to confuse you but dont install your wheel on until you see the belt stay in place on all your pullies, if you see something wrong you can have the person shut off the car immediately no harm done, you just have to fix the problem.

When you install the new belt have someone start the car and make sure the belt is not coming off one of the pullies or jumping on a pulley rail. A belt just does not shred on its own. the plate and the pulley has to have a perfect 90 degree angle.
