EGT probe, where

do I run it to on the exhaust system?
Before the cat, after the cat, near the O2 sensor after the cat.
Or does it go in the Y-pipe?
Help

I just got in my GReddy 60MM guages and they look sweet.

The best place is in the header just above the junction with the y-pipe, that's where the exhaust will be the hottest. An easier location and almost as good is in the y-pipe just below the junction (easier because you can remove the y-pipe to drill the hole). Some people like to put it at the junction of the two legs of the y-pipe, so they can monitor both banks of cylinders, but there will be some cooling of the exhaust gas at that point. Any farther back than that is inadvisable.

my site has a picture of my ypipe with EGT probe tapped in. I initially tried to get greddy and they were always out of stock. I got A'pexi in the end.

it will be good to have two EGT gauge to monitor both banks...but that's 500 dollars.

Does it matter where u install the EGT on the Y-pipe? I mean, could u install it on the other pipe that goes upwards? Also, Does a y-pipe get rid of all of the precats on a cali-spec maxima? I think that there is still one cat left so should we place the EGT on the pipe that doesn't have the pre-cat? Let me know cuz I plan to install mine tomorrow. Thanx guys.

FYI http://images.cardomain.com/installs...08_31_full.jpg

this way, I only monitor one bank and I am assuming both banks are getting the same reading. If I install it near the joint, like Stephen mentioned, I will monitor both banks, but the front bank will get some cooling and the reading will be a bit off. Because I am too far away from it.

cali spec maxima has a precat right behind the radiator. Unless you do a fed spec conversion to get rid off it. I dont think it matters if you install after the precat.

well keep in mind the further down you place it, the less accurate it will be. Most accurate area would be in the exhaust manifold itself, or as most people do, below the flange on the front bank y pipe.

Do NOT install it AFTER the precat... it will be very inaccurate.

Thanx guys for the info. So, one would get better readings if the EGT probe is NOT installed on the pipe that has the pre-cat, right? I was thinking that it would be better to install it on the pipe that doesn't have the pre-cat cuz it has more direct exhaust flow from the manifold. If you install it after a pre-cat , then u might get inacurrate readings due to the blocking of exhaust heat. If anyone thinks differently, please let us know. Thanx.

hmmm...really? have you seen where my EGT probe is located? will it be inaccurate over there? So the temperature reading will be read lower like Maxxboost said? I didnt want to do it in the exhaust manifold because the metal is thick over there.

Closest to the EXHAUST PORT is best...

The precat acts as a "heat sink"... that's the best term I can think of.

Myself and Mardigrasmax have our EGT probes in that same place as this picture.

That's where mine was at too. Problem is now I don't have a SC, there's a hole there. I plugged it up with an used EGT probe in which I cut off the extra length. Since it's cast iron, the hole can't be welded shut from what exhaust shops have told me. Oh well, whatever works.

Tap the hole and thread in a pipe plug.
