Colder plugs have a better heat conduction path than hotter plugs, so they draw heat away from the combusting gases, resulting in lower EGT's and more resistance to detonation in boosted engines.

does colder plug also draw a bit of horsepower away during low to mid range pull?

A colder plug will drop your HP if you're not seeing a large(r) amount of horsepower. Most of the SC'd guys stick with 1 step colder because we don't see max boost until redline. With a turbo you've got max boost at 3000rpm, which would be by far the better candidate for 2 steps colder.

2 steps colder and 3psi at 3000rpm is no good!

thx....no wonder I felt my mid range became a bit weaker after I swap with 1 step colder.
