If there were no metal banging noises, I would be riding on 5 cylinders just like you

ejj- yeah it should be some fun.. did a tranny a month ago now the engine..lol..

I shouls know these parts like the back of my hand.

Justin- I'll be posting in the SE forum of what I am doing.. please feel free to come and help/hang/look

stephen- guessing about 820 degress celcuis. Although I was to busy looking at the road to look down, I looked down after I let off.

Icey and others.. I do WANT to know where the link was and what happened.

Well to the best of my ability.

Icey- pics.. OK.. the 3 front bank plugs were covered in oil. Do you want me to wipe the oil off?

the passenger side had the most.. it was dripping off the plug when I pulled it.

I may check the compression on the back 3 cylinders as well.

The other 2 just had enough to feel it, not so much you could see.

I am running 1 step colder plugs gapped at 38 I THINK.

there will be pics of the motor as I tear it down in the coming months.

Anything else you need to know, let me know.

I posted this for information. It's well known I don't baby my car.

So if there is some information that is hiding in my motor or a picture somewhere, I'll gladly share.

And who knows maybe I'll even learn something outta all of this..lol

It's also worth mentioning that in june or so I did a compression test at dixit's house and read 170-175 in all cylinders.

So I lost 20 PSI in the front 2 in a few months.

Sorry just thought about it

Bags,

either way bud go with it...its easier to swap trannies with the motors out...in my opinion. Hence the reason I suggested pulling both together through the top and it makes live so much easier too. I'll definately keep tabs on what is going on with you...again good luck and my engine swap was fun too, Look at it as a new moD!

BTW...what heat range plugs were you running?
1 step colder and 2 of the plugs were smushed together. There was also a bunch od chunks of metal left in the cylinder from the edges of the pistons. The front bank was zero compression on the center cyl. and I can't remember the compression was on the other 2 cylinders. Alos the heads looked beat to hell also. I think the 3rd pic is of that.

I kind of want to go off of what JAIMECBR900 was saying about the fuel. Seem's kind of wierd though. Seems like the weak spots seem to be the pistons or maybe rod's. maybe it would be a good idea to ceramic coat the pistons or something in the future?

Bag's, when you tear down the engine, check the intake and exhaust manifolds for oil/excessive carbon/etc. With your engine, its wierd that 5 of hte 6 cylinders can read good compression yet be covered in oil, but the rears not be (from a standpoint of oil going up the intake or possiably out the exhaust or something, the chances of that happening plus the oil only going in the even cylinders are slim to none).

Sounds like a good plan though, find a cheap junkyard motor, drop it in, then do a full build up.
Good luck bud! if I was there I'd love to stop by and help out.

Yeah...wipe them clean, but look for anything abnormal, ie metal specs, melted insulater, eroded ground strap, etc...

We know detonation was present from most likely a lean A/F ratio and extreme EGTs, but I'd like to see what else could have caused those three cylinders to fail like that.

Here are some pics

What about the other plugs. Remember it only take one plug to show detonation. Pick the cylinder that has low or zero compression.
