SC pulley ?

I here all about the pulley slipping off and ruining the belt. My ? is can't you make a pulley with taller side so it can't slip over. Or would that cause problems too.

Rails really do not help much.

I am running replacements for the Stillen Kit pulleys. Both are without rails.

Alignment of all the pulleys and top grade bearings in the pulleys are most important. The Stillen pulley bearings are sub-par. A Stillen rep even admitted a bearing problem to me during one of my panic calls to Stillen for help after I shredded a belt and no speed shop to go to (at that time).

it sounds like a great idea on the idler pulley but is not. What do I mean? the belt may shift a mm to the left or the right. If it happens to barely touch the rail the belt will start to fray on the corner. And thats when the trouble begins.

yes i have a warm garage, its what i have been working in for a couple of weeks now. I do not have the time to take off work to go down to atlanta, otherwise i would.

well i installed it and the belt jumped off on sunday.

the idler pulley looks like its misaligned with the rest of them (i bought the kit used).

its a metal pulley and the bearings dont seem to be the smoothest.

(sorry to myownnismo for hijacking his thread)

Pullley bearing solution
1. what type of idler pulley do you have? plastic or ASP? if you have a ASP pull out the bearing take the bearing to NAPA and they will sell you another. They cost about $8-$11.

2. Belt issue

do you have both stand off bolts on there with the the short M6 bolts under the pulley?

Do you have the allen bolt that secures the plate on the bottom? behind the idler pulley?

Do you have the two front top bolts? One is a M6 55mm and the other is a M6 65mm?

3. If I am standing in front of the car facing the motor, What direction is the belt falling towards the motor or away from the motor?

1. ASP

2. i had used another washer to give the bolt proper spacing because i used a longer bolt on hole 18.

i have a fhcs instead of an allen, but it doesnt get in the way

are those the ones captive by the plate? i have one, (i left the one that you did)

3. it seemed that it fell towards the motor. it was a gatorback and split it into two belts. it didnt shred. one belt had 3 ribs the other had one.

any other suggestions?
someone said that i tightened the belt too tight.
