Installed WSP's 3" exhaust

In a word: Loud

I got the Magnaflow muffler, which was a great big mistake. Its way, way too loud. Matter of fact I got pulled over and ticketed last night, a measly 8 hours after I had installed the exhaust. I'm going to contact WSP on Monday and order the "Super Turbo" muffler option. MardiGrasMax went through the same thing and said it was a lot quiter. I should have taken his advice.

Fit: Everything fit quite well. No major problems there.

Quality: I asked that they put an extra O2 bung in the test pipe for me to use with a wideband. They did, but forgot to install a 3rd O2 bung in the b-pipe (right behind the cat). They also forgot to ship the muffler support bracket, but Dallas was nice enough to overnight the bracket and an extra O2 bung to me, so it didn't really slow me down. I still have to get that O2 bung installed.

My only complaint was the size of the flanges. They are 3-bolt, which is nice...but it would have been nice if they used larger flanges. The nut and bolt head sit too close to the pipe to get a normal sized socket wrench on when installing. Made installing that section of the exhaust quite difficult.

Power: It feels great. I did a WOT 3rd gear run on the highway last night, and actcually had the tires break loose at the top of 3rd gear, from a roll. I've never had that happen before (in good weather).

Overall:

I _think_ the dynomax one (super turbo) is baffled.

if you want one...your local muffler shop can build you one. All they have to do is to model after the stock pipe. I know Keving got his 3" cat-back thru a local shope.

ejj - congrats on the new mod. I think they choose smaller flange in order to avoid the cat-back banging agains the car. btw, do you have a 3" ypipe?

However, you can buy all the 3" MB tubing and take it to your shop and STILL be cheaper then most AM exhausts.

JC Whitney sells the cheap stuff, but I think Burns Stainless is who I'd go through.

Just get under there and take a good estimate on the degree bends, lengths, straight pieces you'll need and then go to the BEST welder/muffler shop you can.

Fitment was a LOT better than I expected. Y-pipe bolted up no problem. The test pipe bolts to the y, and the resonated section of the b-pipe bolts to the test pipe. After that its all clamp together.

There's a clamp right at the b-pipe hanger, just before it makes its turn to the passenger side, another clamp just before the rear axle (easy to get to at that location with the wheel off) and a clamp for the muffler.

Because of the clamps it takes a little trial and error to get everything happy, but it all lines up well. I have gotten one or two bangs when I've gone over really big bumps, but that's expected. I betcha switching away from the GC coilovers will solve that.

Just before the axle it hangs a tad low...plus the thread of the u-bolts in the clamps are about an 1" longer than they need to be, so they'll drag on the ground before anything else. I haven't bottomed out the pipe yet, and with me raisng the car a bit soon, I think I'll be fine.

Power: A slight difference when I'm not boosting. But at even 1psi I can't feel a negative difference from before. Like I said...I now start to spin at the top of 3rd. I need slicks or it will just be pointless to go to the track this year.

I'll try to get pics this weekend. I didn't take any of the pipes off the car. I didn't think they were that exciting.

I bought their complete 3" system. Y-pipe, test pipe, cat, b-pipe, muffler. $695 + shipping. Its not stainless or coated, but I'm not that worried about it. They warrenty it for 4-years.

Neal, I don't know prices for each piece of the 3" system. I'm sure Dallas can tell you if you email him.

Oh, and don't get the Magnaflow muffler.

I love the sound at idle. Loud, but not too loud. Deep sound. Its nice. Sound good when rev-ing in idle too.

However, once you hit the gas under load, it sounds like crap. Its loud outside the car, but even louder INSIDE the car. It also get's that ricey tone pretty quickly. Nothing like what I wanted.

ohh no... please dont say that. Thats the setup im debating on getting... The exhaust I have right now is pretty damn ricy... unless the exhuast is super heated (highway driving).

What did you have previously, and did you notice any loss in tq in low/mid range?

I had a 2.5" Stainless Cattman y-pipe, 2.5" WSP test pipe and 2.25" Apexi WS catback.

I'm convinced that I didn't lose any power, anywhere. Could be mental though.

INTERESTING ... any other opinions? haha. Flow is good, but then with the wider piping, you'd be losing some velocity... but if losses are minimal, then Im definately going to take the plunge. I just dont want to sacrifice too much low/midrange power. MEVI already decimated me.

I prefer a stealth sound. I keep noticing a 3" exhaust on a supercharged 6 cylinder will sound ricey, hope youre new muffler will fix that.
