5 Speed Transmission Bearing rattle ?

My 96 5 speed SC Max, with a Center Force clutch, has a low RPM ratttle when moving (in gear) at around 800 to 1000 RPM that sounds to me like a bearing. This is not the regular Vortech SC rattle.

A clutch repair facility hear in Colorado said it seemed to be a transmission bearing going bad. The shifting is as normal.

I am quoted 1 thousand to 13 hundred to repair.

Anyone have any similiar experiences with a "rattle while in motion" at about 800 to 1000 RPM that then seems to go away? I was told it will keep getting worse, then blow-up.

Monday I will have a Speed Shop look at it also. They said a Motor Mount collapsing could also cause a similial noise.

Thanks

Yeah, I've had it since installing an ACT clutch. I rebuilt the transmission with new bearings at the same time, so it's not the bearings. Unless I'm a complete doofus and did something wrong, but I've put over 35000 miles on the transmission since then and it has not gotten any worse. To me it sounds like the clutch springs rattling due to clutch chatter. If I slip the clutch at about 1200-1500 rpm when letting the clutch out it there is no clutch chatter and no rattling noise.

Thanks for the input!

I remember the mechanic that installed my CenterForce in Tucson AZ saying I would hear some "clatter/ratttle". That was 17 thousand miles ago. Maybe I am just hearing it "more" do to starting-off slowly because of the cold weather in Colorado.

I basically do not trust these auto repair bandits.

The speed shop I go to RMCR in Colorado Springs specializes in Vortec SC, and as mentioned above I will have them give me an opinion on Monday.

Thanks again.
