Finally Dynoed...comments?!?

Hey all!!
Just wanted to let you know that I finally dynoed my car and got 272.3 HP/ 253.2tq. I think I can get more cuz my MEVI wasn't workin( I lost power when the actuator was open) In a way I am disappointed, but my fault...I ve been lettin my car go. Too busy with other stuff but i am gonna jump back in again. I have to 2.87 pulley, MEVI, upgraded fuel pump and y-pipe. I found some boost leak I am gonna fix but my concern is I want to push about 300hps and then I am set. I never liked an exhausts cuz I believe that the max has a certain humble class where I rather find HP somewhere else. but since I am boosting high I really don't got a choice. How much of an increase will I get from an exhaust. I am sure the if I got some parts working right I would at least get around ~290 prolly tuned ~little over 300. Some comments and some words of wisdom is greatly appreciated. thanx fellow max pak

if i were you i would keep the stock exhaust and get an electric exhaust cutout so you dont lose any hp on the dyno

Going from a 2.5" exhaust to 3" from Y-Pipe back on a 2.87" pulley and MEVI:

Never dynoed without an exhaust.

Here is a couple of Dynos - one with MEVI off and one with MEVI on the whole time (tied open)

So you should expect with the MEVI working properly for the pre-5200RPM line to be the MEVI closed and post 5200RPM to be the MEVI open.

(red - closed)
(blue - tied open)

I had a problem with my MEVI that day as well.

There is something rotten in LA...I lost HP when I Had my MEVI open...why would it do that?

you lost peak hp!?

No idea why it would do that - you would lose some torque at low RPM because the MEVI is open (like in the Dyno above)

those numbers are decent but it seems that they would easily be over 300whp

Yeah!! I thought it would be closer to ~300... my first run was 272 then lost like 2 hp on open...that really puzzled me around peak hp. it looks to me I would be around 300 if things were workin right.

Sounds to me like you've got a slipping belt or maybe you ahve the problem I had - air leak at the compressor halves.

Check the belt and then spray soap and water on the compressor and then rev the engine and see if you get bubbles.

Just to eliminate those possibilities.

his belt got toasted on the dyno.

his engine was also rocking alot back and forth. Tae, u should invest in some new motor mounts first and replace that belt properly

well, if you think about it - with a stock muffler, that's actually not too far off.

Starting with a 2.5" Y-pipe and B-Pipe with a stock muffler, then replacing the muffler with a 2.5" Stillen muffler - I gained 19hp, and then changing out the Y-pipe, B-pipe and muffler to 3", - I gained another 15 or so.

You would gian a lot of power by upgrading that muffler. Like I said - I gained 19hp.

While your numbers are a little low - I don't think they should be more than 305-310hp due to your exhaust restrictions and maybe lack of precision tuning?

<What A/F are you running?>

No - not off a gauge. Off the Dyno.

I meant what A/F did the O2 Wideband in the tailpipe from the Dyno give you?

<If you didn't get a Wideband O2 - do it next time - that's more the point to dynoing than anything when you're boosted.>

I actually thought that they would hook up something to read my a/f ratio but I guess this was not the dyno to do it...as far as the motor rockin, I've never seen that b4. I gotta wait til summers over so I can get focus on my max.I think what...I am 20hp off compared to your dyno in the closed position, cant count the open one.my last one was the shreeded belt. How often do you check your belt tension? and where can I get some motor mounts, made for this abuse?
thanx for you input Ian
thanx for the Dyno experience Larry

With exhaust and some tuning, you'll probably gain about 20hp - that's probably about correct. Although if you're putting out that much power right now and you have stock exhaust - you're probably fairly well tuned right now.

What is your Fuel Control setup? Just a Vortech FMU?

As far as belts - I've never shredded one yet. I have the V1 bracket, which tends to eat belts far less than the V2 bracket does.

However - I check the belt tension every time I change my oil - Every 1500 miles because my car sits more than it moves. (I drive maybe 4-5k a year).

I also pop the hood and check the pulley and piping and everything else every time I put gas in it.

yeah i have a vortech FMU. soon to get a cartech. I drive alot. but not anymore. I should be checking my car more often...I am not sure if I suitable for the blower. I am always on the go and barely have enough time to monitor it.
