Has anyone actually done this, and are there any tricks?

yeah, it can be done with no problems. The VTEC wire is just a ground I believe. I think BSwithTF has one installed in his car running the MEVI.
EDIT: Sorry I was thinking VAFC, not emanage. But VTEC output for one device would be similar to another, so why wonldn't it work.

It's a power output on the VAFC. At a 3k changeover (testing at the lowest rpm setting) it put out 14.8V. I have it running my '00 VI. It's wired directly into my vacuum switch. I can set the changeover at different points for acceleration and deceleration. I need to watch more closely and see where my RPM's land when shifting to see if it's even beneficial or not.

What's your vacuum switch?
I'd set it up to the cross-over point of the on/off power curves.

it would work no problem. like stated before, it is either a ground or a +12v signal, most likely the latter - eitherway, just wire it up to your butterfly valve on the mevi and it should initiate at whatever rpm you set the 'vtec' to kick in at on the emanage. wiring is simple once you understand that it is just a bunch of basics that are combined to create complex situations.

Welp, after realizing I'd have to open the emanage box and change the jumpers - I took the easy way out and just hooked back up to my RPM switch. Next time I need a rpm output, you can bet I'll be trying the emanage though
