Opinions wanted on my new SC set up
Opinions wanted on my new SC set up
Just got a V1 SC kit for my 96 5-speed. I would like some opinions on my set up. I would like to know if I will be safe at 10 PSI with stock injectors.
The set-up is as follows:
3.125 Pulley
8:1 FMU
AEM FPR
Walbro 255
CAI
Stock injectors
SAFC
Mods already installed (that matter):
MEVI
Y-pipe
catback
What are your thoughts? Dangerous lean conditions? Slow? waste of money?
It is the same set-up that Kenneth from the .org had on his max minus the MEVI.
Thanks for the help guys!

But, I tested a couple of my old 4th gen injectors up to 150 psi with no sign of lock up. That doesn't mean an old, tired injector won't lock up at 100 psi, of course.
So am I fine with the 8:1 FMU? I am sort of worried of running lean in the upper RPM's because of the MEVI. The most amount of FP I want to see is 100 PSI on stock injectors correct? I have about 180K on these injectors and motor I would really like to run 10 PSI on the stock injectors. Would I be better off just running the larger 3.33 pulley until I change to the 370's?
Thanks so much for the advise.

180K?!?
I'd find 370cc for $250 range or buy some lower mileage stock ones for cheap.
You should AT LEAST get them cleaned/flow tested, you can try this place for cheaper then RC Engineering:

With a 3.12", I thought people were hitting 11PSI....
Go with 370cc injectors.....may as well get the bigger ones if you're going to spend money on injectors anyway.
A Cartech Adjustable FMU will allow you to tune better than that Vortech will.
Otehrwise, looks like you're in good shape.

Ummm, dubya tee eff?
WTF are you guys talkin about? I was running the 8:1 FMU disc with my 3.125" pulley on my V1. 6:1 is too lean. I wouldn't go past a 3.33" pulley with the 6:1 disc. I set my base fuel pressure at 36psi.
I also had stock injectors, stock everything internally.

Thanks for all the advise guys. To be honest I dont really have the extra money for the 370's right now. Maybe I should just go with the larger pulley even though I dont want to. And Craig this is your old kit with the same fuel set up you had. You were okay with 10PSI?

How much fuel pressure were you seeing with the 3.125 pulley and 8:1 fmu?

Bagzz:
Gawd man, its soo hard to remember, it was a while ago....I am pretty positive it was ~83psi by redline. I'm about 95% sure. After I got my S-AFC I remember phucking around with it, and set it at -1 from 1k-5krpm, then richened it +1 from 5-6.5krpm. I didn't have any dyno tunes done or anything as you know, since I dropped that kit for the Eaton Roots setup, and then we all know what happened soon thereafter.
It is my strong opinion that he use the 8:1 disc at LEAST until he gets an FPR/S-AFC to dyno tune with. Without these tools or a dyno tune it would be way too risky and I am willing to bet he will ping near redline every now and then. I'm not sure if Vortech makes a 7:1 disc, but I was contemplating doing that when I had my vortech kit.

With my 8:1 @ 7-8 PSI, I was around 95 PSI. So add another 2 PSI to that and you see why I reccomend the 6:1. I have no REAL answer when our fuel injectors lock up, PSI wise. I stick with the "general consinus" that it's ~110psi. And not to mention the walbro flows crap @100psi.. as seen here
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=336440... Thanks for the sticky Stephen

SO now you know my answer for the 6:1.
And yes vortech makes a 7:1 FMU disk

Thank God I don't have to worry anymore about the headache known as boost. All I have to do is sat back and listen to my V8 burble.
Although I dearly miss the attention my crickets and BOV got around town

Put a turbo on the stang.. there are ~10 or so here that make 500+ whp

Oh well....I can deal with the slowbra for now.

But, I tested a couple of my old 4th gen injectors up to 150 psi with no sign of lock up. That doesn't mean an old, tired injector won't lock up at 100 psi, of course.

thanks Steve!
Jason - I will send the 3.33 pulley and 6:1 fmu disc out during lunch Friday.
With the 3.25 on my V2 w/ custom CAI I hit anywhere from 8-10psi, also using the 8:1 disc, Im running rich as hell because I'm not tuned yet, but I rather be rich then blown, oh wait... ;-)
