PLMS datalogging

Have any of you guys looked at this system? I have it and really like it. It works through the consult port. You can basically monitor and log whatever info your ECU sees. It is very nice for FI cause you can see your total timing. In addition, you can perform the Nissan active tests, check ECU codes, and reset the ECU.

It is cheap too ~$150 usd iirc.

I believe all of us are OBD-II, but maybe 95ers aren't and could use it.

If they come out with the OBD-II version, let me know.

You guys and your fancy new cars LOL

This isn't an OBD scanner, it's a Nissan specific consult interface. OBDII cars do not have a consult port?

They do, but it's Consult II vs. Consult I. Protocol is different.

TechnoSquare/Techtom have had something similar called the MDM-100 for displaying a few engine parameters through the Consult I port. They have something now for the Consult II, but it's CAN bus specific I think and that only comes on 2K2+ Maximas. I'm in the no mans' land, ie '96-2001.

I sent PLMS an email about OBDII compatibility. Their website does not say anything about OBD compatibility which leads me to think it works with both. But then again they are in Australia so who knows.

They mention only Consult I and then ask for help on locating Consult II protocol technical descriptions and electrical signaling.

The two Consult ports are configured differently, ie number of pins and what they do.

If you are OBDII, why not just use the one of the many OBDII scanners like the Auterra unit for pc/palm?

Consult will have access to non-OBD mandated parameters such as injector pulse width, knock count, etc. depending on the ECU. Plus, if these guys do what they say, you could have preset warnings if something is exceeded and lots of other stuff the Consult-II can see that scan tools can't.

Auterra is more then enough for most probably. There is just a lot more that could be visible, but is it really useful daily? Probably not.
