Relocating battery to the trunk question....

I was told it would be best to post this question in here since most of you have had to fight for every little bit of space under the hood, so here goes. I would like to move my battery to the trunk but i cant seem to find a write up anywhere. Can anyone help me out with this?? It should be easy enough to do this but i sure dont want to screw anything up...which is why im asking for help from some of you who may have done this before. Can you point me in the direction of a write up or something?

have you installed a stereo in your max before? (or is there one there already?)

you basically run a 0 or 2 gauge wire down the length of the car and put it in the trunk. then you ground it to something good, like the strut tower.

I just used the kit from Summit. All you have to do really is drill two holes in the trunk and probably one through the firewall.

Make sure you get a circuit breaker too.

Why would you need a circuit breaker? What is a good ground in the trunk?

If the positive cable grounds out, it will blow things up. I think a really big fuse would work also, but my circuit breaker (rockford) has a button on it to cut the power.

It's a 140 amp one. So far so good, I've had it on for a month now.

Where are you guys stashing the wire running from the engine bay to the trunk? under on the chassis?

Subs, do you have any idea why your fuse blew? Did the cable ground out?

Through the cabin under the carpet.

under the carpet and through the center armrest/console. watch out for the e-brake though, don't let the wires get in the way.

how did you guys connect all the wires that went to the old battery terminal? I soldered mine, but I'd rather do somthing else.

i put a bolt through all the holes (with washers in between) and then shrink wrapped it.

my friend just put a ring terminal with 0/2 gauge wire hooked on to it and put it through the bolt that tightens the original battery terminal to the battery. Car gets power sufficiently....

Yeah ive installed a stereo before, still have the wiring in the trunk as well. Its 4 guage tho...not quite as big as the wiring you guys are talking about. I got the basics down from the 2 links you sent me (thanks a lot slimer!), but i have to ask what in the hell do i do with all the original positive wires going to the factory battery terminal. Can i connect all those to a fused distribution block and then just run my wire from there? Would the fused block be sufficient?? I noticed a lot about needing a circuit breaker as well...can anyone snap a close up shot of what you did under your engine bay to relocate your battery? Anyway...thank you guys for all your help!!

mine are connected to a dist. block.

i have a 4 terminal block that i use 3 and leave the 4th open to what i want. I am considering making a terminal to jump in case i cant get the trunk open.

i cut the bracket off the other positive wires and then connected them to the block.

has anyone thought of connecting a wire directly to the alternator? this would eliminate some of the wires that went to the battery, as the power would be comming to the fuse box through the harness over the radiator. I don't really like having those wires just dangling there. they make a great connection, but if they don't need to be there...

Just a thought.

I got the battery relocation kit from summit, and with all the money going into the turbo, i cant exactly afford to go get a dry cell. Any suggestions for venting a conventional battery in the trunk?

drill small holes in the battery box that you got run a vacuum line down from the hole that you drilled, drill another hole in the bottom of your trunk and vent the hose through the bottom of the car, thats basically how mercedes benz does it
