MEVI pisses me off!!!

I finally get the car back up and running with the T-trim blower and a couple weeks later my luck ends again. Before I go into what happened I must say from my uncalibrated butt dyno the car felt faster on 7-8psi with the belt slipping (on purpose until i got the injectors in), than the S-trim did on 11psi. Now onto the fun part of this story...

Im heading to Target to get a couple things for around the house and im driving the car. Its a blast since I've been driving a 93 Sierra W/T for the past 2 months. I go in get what I need and I start heading towards the house. I give the car a little kick in 2nd gear and its trying to break loose and something then felt weird. I pull up to the light and the car seems to idle down really low and BAM it dies totally within a couple seconds. Of course im at a main intersection when this happens so I crank the car back up and it sounds like marbles in a can ping ponging around. I cuss a few times, go across 3 lanes and into a gas station and pop the hood to listen. Towards the rear of the runners it sounds like something boucing off the walls of the runners/manifold.

Well blah blah blah I gimp home and the first thing I figured I would check is the MEVI screws. Its dark so im strugglin to see and I take the cover off the MEVI and what do I find? WOOHOO the focker sucked in a whole MEVI butterfly not just a screw. So over a month downtime, I get it running and now its going to be a little longer before I can enjoy the car again.

SR20 is going to stop by sometime and take a look and see if we can just get the thing running until his schedule is free'd up so we can pull the motor and do another swap. The hell with the MEVI and the hell with the 3.0 Im just going to swap a built 3.5 and be done with it. Im not really pissed but then again it hasn't set it fully yet.

Back to the Sierra for a while

Well, I really feel for yea!! You outta try owning my built 83 Blazer. I've spent many a night sleeping in the back of it due to breaking, I mean....really I have installed my 1000+ craftsman tools in the back... thats how bad it is, oh and heres some added bonus it gets 8 maybe 9 mpg, who woulda thought a th350 and 4:88 gears and 36in swampers woulda got ya that, anyways it totally pays to have a daily driver (that use to be it) (200miles to a 31 gallon tank), then the maxima came to be the replacement and I just coundn't get over the sounf of the one in the Fast and F... So now the Maxima is stored winters.... and i bought a DSM (90 Plymouth Laser w/2.0L) for 1200 it never breaks it has 170,000 miles on a redone head and re-reinged motor---and it gets 26 mpg.

Long story short I'm 25 living with mom and dad, work 40 hours a week @22.00 bucks/hr, go to school 12 credit hours and have amassed over 168 cr hrs. I am currently saving for a house with 10 acres and an out building for my obsession with cars.

Lon story short is I just wrote to say that I find that no matter how bad it is you can always make it better! good luck.

By the way I really wanna know what you think of the t-trim!!!! Be very specfic!!!!!

Jesus Matt, that really sucks. I can't believe it sucked in the whole butterfly valve. I Would just run the MEVI with no butterfly valves at all. The top end would be better that way.

I've thought about what I was going to do all night. When matt has a chance to help pull the motor apart we are going to see whats damamged and hope its healthy on the motor I over revved some time ago. If thats the case hes going to switch the parts over so I can at least enjoy the car some before I do the build up. Im trying to decide if I want to do a full 3.5 or just the shortblock so I can use the injectors I just bought as well as the same piping etc etc. Basically the same thing Mardigras is doing.

Anyone want to start a donation for Matts blown motor cause lol.....

Also Mike thats what Matt recommending, taking out all the butterflies so this can't happen again. I might lose a little low end but I'll have a little juice for that.

Matt

Damn living at home making $22/hr you must be piling cash up for a huge downpayment...

I haven't really got to test the T-trim to its full capabilities but it honestly felt stronger to me at 7-8psi that the s-trim did at 11-12. I also felt that I had a little more torque low end bc the car torque steered quite a bit even with the quafe. Once I get it running healthy, who knows when that will be I will dyno and overlay with my S-trim dyno. It could be 2 weeks and it could be 3 months right now I couldn't tell you. If I was a worthy mechanic I would be in the garage right now tearing into it, but I'll leave that too the other Matt to do since he seems to know about everything possible about these motors.

Well I just went out and looked at the car again from last night. Its a little worse than I thought. Its not one cylinder thats damaged upon further investigation I have lost 2 screws one also on cylinder #3 I believe it is. So now its 2 that are damaged. I was however able to recover the plate with a magnet, it was lodged about 4" down one of the runners but there still is a screw that passed through. I just went ahead and took off all the butterflies out of frustration. This is just lovely!

man that sucks, i remember when mecca lost his old setup due to a screw from th mevi, i never knew your car was being built up that nice. if u do the full 3.5 would u try to fit your s/c kit to it?

whats the info on your t series blower? did it bolt right up to the old s/c mounting hardware?

According to the guy that wil be doing most of the swap there isn't too much custom work needed to be done. I know the timing chain cover will have to be swapped and some custom piping will have to be made, but other than that Im not totally certain.

The T-trim was just my upgraded S-trim. All the guts were upgraded to T-trim specs so its the same shell just different inner works. Yes it bolted right up perfectly.

We just got the compression results. The engine has about 5k more miles on it now than when we did the first compression test. It has been broken in with Castrol 5w-30 GTX.
I have a high dollar MAC Tools digital compression recorder and it's been tested accurate against other testers in the shop.

All numbers in PSI
1.) 227
2.) 220
3.) 222
4.) 219
5.) 225
6.) 095

Number six is obviously the culprit here. It's probably another bent exhaust valve from passing the MEVI screw. But you guys can also see the other dilemma we have. 220+ PSI is a wee bit too high to be running around with high boost. I haventseen any VQ35s over 216, they're usually around 205.
