Install pics

I will just keep all the pics in this thread.

Ran into a few problems yesterday. I need to shorten the down pipe where it meets the cat, weld some pin size holes on found on the up pipe, and figure out how to support the turbo. Nothing big, I expected this stuff to happen. Just sucks it is sunday and I can't get the welding done.

There is a rod welded to the feed pipe that is obviously for a hanger, but need to figure out where to put it. Here is a pic, any suggestions are welcome

looks like there is a bolt hole directly about it. how about there? Looks great mike, just dont forget to hook all the vacuum lines up again.

are you going to connect the crankcase vent to the non charged side? my suggestion would be to put the evap line on the non charged side too. I ran into emissions problems with mine hooked up to the charged side.

Doesnt the down pipe support most of it? I know this isnt the PFI kit, but almost same concept...IIRC, the down pipe does support most of the weight, and then a bracket was welded on the downpipe to something else.

Had some problems today.

The car that this kit was originally made for did not have ABS, so my ABS got in the way of the pipe going to the compressor. This threw everything off and my down pipe would not clear the radiator fan. Spent the whole day getting around this problem. luckily a friend of a friend helped with some welding

also, I am pretty sure this exhaust was made without the use of a cat. As in the end of the down pipe just bolted to the b-pipe. Had to cut and weld there to. Then forgot about my test pipe having cocked flanges so it will have to be redone latter this week.

But by the end of the day the turbo is mounted and all problems were solved. I should be home clear free here hopefully. Should be able to fire her up by tuesday night or first thing wednesday.

Fitment is too tight to not have everything secured. I now have the turbo bolted down to a bracket in the engine bay. Still have room for movement with my flex section, the turbo just ain't movin

yhea, things started flying by after we got the whole turbo mounting and piping figured out. I did break on of my oil pan bolts....we will see if it leaks but I doubt it will

I will be done with the install tomorrow, but I imagine there will be some bugs to work out. Hopefully I will get to drive it by tomorrow night

Mike, looks like its going well, you work fast! I broke one of my bolts too, just fill the hole up with silicone, you'll be fine. I can't wait to see the finished product! By the way, I'd be leary of that bend right before the MAF... I just found out tonight that my rough idle is being caused by a bend right before my MAF, so I need to redo my intake piping this weekend.

poor little radiator hose looks like he might be an early casualty. The pic makes it look like it is right on the exhaust piping. Other than that looks good.

The down pipe? That one is an optical illusion, the down pipe and that upper radiator hose have a good 2" clearance. The down pipe starts going down right after the v-band. Now,There are two places where the intercooler piping is touching a radiator hose but I am not too worried about that.

The two places I am worried about are where the intercooler piping is a 1/2" from the exhaust side of the turbo. I put heater wrap on one spot of the down where a silicone coupler from the intercooler piping rests really close.

I plan to monitor things very closly in the next few weeks and I am sure a little adustment might be necessary.

I am also worried about ground clearance. I sure can't go with any lower of a drop. Looks like I lost about 2" of clearance, won't know how much of a problem it will be till I actually get the car on the ground. I can raise the turbo from its mounting location about 1/4"-1/2" by installing some metal plates which will bring both the down pipe and reverse y-pipe up a bit.

I recently met a guy who does some fabricaton work on the side. He has got a lift and and a tig welder at his house. I may talk with him over the summer about redoing my exhaust piping. I think I can keep my turbo location and get rid of about 3'-4' of piping and gains some ground clearance.

Took her for a couple drives today. One time the mid-pipe came off the MAF and the other an intercooler pipe seperated. Freaked me out both times. I am running open headers at the moment till I get to an exhaust shop tomorrow. It is just too damn loud to be driving like that so I will wait and go have some more fun after I get the exhaust done.

I did break my tires loose at the top of second though

Yhea, I sold all my previous mods to help fund the turbo. I will do an MEVI or 00VI in the near future though.
