Where in the Heck do I start? Help please

Hi-
I want to try to build a junkyard turbo for my 95 se. I don't want to buy a kit because I'd like the challenge of trying to make everything work...lol(call me stupid). Funny thing is that even though I've read all of the stickies and everything I have no idea where to even start. Can someone point me in the right direction as far as which parts off of other vehicles will work? TIA.

Thanks I've read through that. I know in general what I need but am looking for specific parts ie which size turbo everyone would recommend, etc. Is there another site or link that I can read to help me with some of this information?

you just got lucky with finding good piping. Check out her website, she knows how to build cars. I don't think that this is going to be a junkyard setup.

Tia-trying to fab the piping will be the hardest part, but actually seeing one will give you more ideas. Mike and Neal should be going to the track soon. Maybe you can try to meet up with them to see hows their's work. (I'm interested in seeing Neal's as well)

Thanks slimer! I'm not actually trying to use "used" parts. I plan on using all new ones, I just don't want to purchase a kit and slap it on...that would be way too easy...hehe I was just wondering what everyone thought was the best setup, sizes, models to go with in their experience. I realize that trying to fab the piping is gonna be a b#$ch, but without at least one trouble spot there would be a lot less "Corona" nights at the shop. I'll have to keep an eye out for when those two are going to the track and make a road trip down.

If you are looking for a good size for the turbo, quite a few people, including myself, have gone with a T3/T04e with a 60 trim compressor and .63 A/R. Some people have also used the T3/60-1. Check out www.johnnyracecar.com for good deals on intercoolers.

i dont know if they are coming. i spoke with mike and brian about it and they didn't know yet.

Tia-Mike has a straight up T04. .6x AR seems to fit about right, but I'm s/c so I haven't done as much research as some of the guys in this forum.

Need to know how much power you think you want to put out to really start narrowing down turbo sizes.

Also the term kit is thrown around sortof loosely. No "kit" will bolt directly on, you still have to cut, do at least some minor welding, get more accessories, etc.

If you are dead set on doing your own piping then basically you need to start mocking things up I'd say. Start measuring, moving things around, deciding how much cutting you want to do, etc.

Thanks everyone for their help...it's off to read up some more and start piecing this together. Hopefully I'll have it all done by summer, but realistically with the show schedule and everything I proab won't get to it until later summer, fall...until then I hope everyone doesn't mind if I hang around and lurk here for some time.
