VQ30DET and VQ30DE differences?
VQ30DET and VQ30DE differences?
I'm aware that the T means it has a turbocharger but does anyone know the difference in internals between the two? Could this be proof that it is safe to run moderate boost on a VQ30DE or are the internals inside the T substantially different? Im guessing the answer is a no, but is it possible to take the turbo from a T and use it on our engine?
The heads are the same cc. They might flow slightly better, or have better cams or something, but I don't know for sure. Tilley should know since he had one in his car.
It has lower compression pistons. Beefier rods (thicker and bigger hole for crank) and stronger crank. Some 350Z guys actually de stroke their engines and use the VQ30DET crank and rods.
I know the manifolds are different as well. The IM has almost no runners and the exhaust manifolds go straight back.

ask tilley, he did the det swap.

Did you miss the part where we told you that engine is for a rear wheel drive car? Meaning it sits rotated 90 degrees from how a FWD engine sits. No it won't even be close to fitting in your car, everything would have to be completely custom. Drop the idea. If you really want DET stuff you can take the engine apart and use the internals, but externally, it won't fit any better than it would fit in your lawn mower.
Tilley took almost every internal and swapped it over to the FWD block. Unless you are really crazy turbo and need a built engine, but for some reason are too cheap to actually put forged custom stuff in there.
The Exhaust manifolds would be good to get for a turbo setup to make it easier to fun the up pipes. The intake manifold would be good too, but you would need a custom hood. But I would rather just get some custom turbo headers for the price of buying the engine.
This engine would be GREAT to put in a 240sx though. There would still have to be some custom stuff, but easier than the FWD engine and it is already setup for turbo.
