Wierd clutch issues

Not sure whats going on but once in a blue moon my clutch decides it doesn't want to catch going onto 2nd gear. Im not power shifting or anything to that nature just a quick firm gear change. It doesn't happen much at all but its really annoying when it does and I have no idea what could be causing it. BTW its a clutchnet 6 puck with a 60% over stock pressure plate. The clutch also only has approx 2k miles on it. Any ideas?

You sure it's the clutch and not the 1-2 synchro going out on you?

Describe what happens when the situation occurs in more detail. Does the engine just free-rev as if you had it in neutral but the shifter is in 2nd gear position? Does the shifter not want to go into 2nd at all? Does it engage the gear but just feel like it's slipping a bunch?

Ohh it engages fine, IE no grinding to any effect. Basically it just free revs but if I pedal it once it grabs and goes. Thats what I don't understand, it only happens maybe once every 15 or so shifts which has me puzzled. Im hoping its something as easy and pedal adjustment.

Changing the clutch engagement has helped me in a few different situations, but I don't know about yours. Random clutch slip is odd. What is going on before this happens? Are you tearing through 1st then going into 2nd when this happens? Have you done the 5th gear low rpm test? I guess lowering the engagement point a tad can't hurt to try.

bringing this back from the dead....

When I try to shift pretty hard into second is when it slips. I just hit second pretty firm and it started to spin and all of a sudden the clutch slipped and free revved. What exactly is the 5th gear low rpm test? What mph should this be preformed and what symptoms am I looking for.

FYI I havent adjusted the clutch any yet bc I havent been driving the car much. Was going to take it out last weekend and noticed a split cv axel boot which I have to replace this weekend. Yay for me....

Anyway anymore insight would be helpful on the clutch issue.

Clutches slip in higher gears first. So testing it in 5th gear will show signs of a failing clutch sooner than testing it in say 3rd gear.

SO what mph/rpm should I be testing 5th gear? I've never had a problem with it slipping in 5th gear but I've never really shifted hard into 5th either.

It doesn't have anything to do with shifting and the RPMs really don't matter, I'd do between 2000 and 3000 because the engine is making pretty good torque there but you don't have to be going terribly fast to test it. Just put it in the gear, and then floor the car. If the engine revs but the car doesn't accelerate accordingly then your clutch is slipping. If not then that is not your problem.

ok...well I have done that numerous times and its never slipped in 5th gear. It is for sure slipping in 2nd and sometimes 3rd. Last night I tried going pretty hard into second and it barked the tires and then slipped and free revved. Im hoping adjusting the pedal will be the fix, if not Im at a loss. The clutch is basically new with about 2-3k on it.

Then it's not just a simple worn out clutch problem. It's something else because it would slip in higher gears first if it were just worn out.

Throwout bearing binding? Crud in the linkage? 4th gen has hydraulic clutch linkage, yes? Check both master and slave cylinders - piston(s) may be binding. Take cylinders apart, clean, hone with brake hone, put in new pistons &/or rings / seals. Flush and bleed system. Hope this helps!
