126mph traps

squeezed in time to get to the track today. I say squeezed because my wife is 8.5 months pregnant and getting mild labor pains. Its our third and her mom is here, so my super wife said sure go to the track! I worked on the car a bit Saturday and took it out for a test run. In at full boost, 1.5bar, in 4th at ~5200 I hear a LOUD POP and power falls off. I put in 5th and she is still running ok, whew. Check the data logs and just as the pop happened AFR want from mid to low 10's to 14s... hmmm first off why low 10s AFR I had the car tuned to mid 11s for 40f, well its 60f out. I can only guess that it was so rich for so long in 4th gear that fuel built op and it backfired. I had to get back to the house so I pulled 15% of the additional injector PW from the emanage, I thought it OK... At the track it was a different story. They were having a points race so they were only giving the test and tuners 4 runs. On my first run I did full boost and it ran like poop, 12.0 @ 118 with some studdering and a backfire. Next I thought lets turn down the boost to .9bar and run some juice, I pulled 2 degerees of timing with the J&S with the juice. This got me 11.4 @ 126mph AND allot of attention from the track officials, I now need a roll cage GREAT!. They said I could run again but if I ran faster than 11.499 I was done for the day, only havinf 2 runs left anway WTF. I tried full boost and the 75shot, bogg to a 11.66 @ 117... Then I said lets try the low boost and a 125shot, spun the slicks in first so bad when I shifted into 2nd I was at 2500rpms, bogg again. I found the track scale and she weighed ~ 3200 with driver IIRC. I guess a new mph record is a good way to start the season.

So I need a...
SA rated Helmet $250
SFI rated jacket $80
SFI rated 5 point harness $60, will do a racing seat too $350
5pt roll bar$250 for hard parts, DIY install
Maybe a battery disconnect if they catch on $80
JOY!!!

I do have some D2 coilovers (THANKS REDLINEMAX)with extra stiff rear speings on the way. With these I can jack up the back and put more weight on the front so the 125 shot will hold in 1st gear

I have a video I will post shortly thanks to Cutler for helping me out today!

What size slicks do you run? Maybe you should try bigger ones?

You could get cheap 15X10 wheels from:

Yes, but chances are if he uses one of those tracks it won't be as nice and ultimately affect his times.

Wow nice work as always. About the helmet I got my SA helmet for $199 from www.saferacer.com a few years ago. I got one made by G-Force.

RacerWholesale's a decent source too for most of that.

Suggest getting a 2005 helmet as they're usually only legal for ~10yrs from mfg date IIRC. Fantastic trap. Any plans to gut some of that weight?

Excellent Mardi. Great to hear your starting to get the results you have been looking for. I am sure once you get the car running perfectly for a few runs you will see a 10 sec pass. I kinda hope you don't in a way because I know you will be moving on once you hit that goal.

Wow, great stuff. Like BEJAY mentioned how are you going to counter the weight? IIRC the D2s should save you around 40lbs all around.

Does the car really weight 3200 lbs w/driver?

If you have to get racing seats, get RCI seats (ask Jime). They weight 12-13 lbs each. Stock seats weight 100 lbs for both. Race seats alone could save you 70+ lbs.

I believe the RCI seats only go for 60$ each (they have some sort of leather immitation cover).

Your numbers keep improving and like usual I'm impressed!!

I wish I could really lend you the roll bar but you're better off with your own, safety is always prudent!!
