I'm Back, And It's Time To Play!

Finally the **** Box of Death is back on the road! I glanced in the forum and I see a lot of new handles, so let me introduce myself. Names Choray, and I live in the thriving metropolis of Chatanooga, TN. I've had the PFI kit on the Max for 3 years and had been going through a lot of problems lately.

This past October The second motor I put in the car had a disagreement with the RVM underdrive pulley. One of the screws that hold the timing ring to the back of the pulley came loose and milled a hole in the timing chain cover, draining all of the oil out. To beat it all, I was on cruz at 55 MPH going across the dam.

Over Thanksgiving I swaped out the Vq30de with a Vq30dek that I scored from Jay25 in Hot-lanta. Registration was up in November, and this is the first year for emisions in our county. With an engine swap comes Tripped codes. I replace several sensors, and 2 computers, and finally in Feb I have it ready to pas emissions. On the way to the gym one night, I drag the Exhaust and ruin everything from the manifolds back. Ypipe, up pipe, down pipe 3" cat, 3" custom exhaust, and Supertrapp muffler. After being mad at it for 2 months, and putting it in time out, and $1700 in replacement parts, She is back on the road.

Since April, I have visited the emisions testing center every 2 weeks, hoping his piece of crap will finally pass the readyness test. For those of you that don't know, When you erase certain codes, or replace a sensor, such as O2 sensors, You have to go throu a drive cycle to learn the new signal. If you don't, you fail the readyness test. The car runs great, and no CELs, just won't pas the dang test.

The trained chimps that run the testing centers here in Chatta-vegas, know squat about cars, therefore they continue to fail me with out knowing why. The 3 Nissan Master Techs even looked at the car for hours and could not find a thing. Finally, after months of begging and pleading, I find out that Nissan, in their infinate wisdom, used left over 95 OBD I parts on the early 96 OBD IIs. I get the number to the state mechanic, and says he'll shove his rod up my tail pipe, and sniff my rearend.

When I show up he does his thing, and the car is blowing friggen roses out the tail pipe! On a max of 220 PPM my 303HP turbo piece of crap family car blows a 42!

After 9 months of cussing, ranting, and raving, I have the approval to drive me car in 7 minutes from the state mechanic. Why couldn't this have been done 9 months ago!?!?!?!?!?

Now to get to the point. I'm about to close on a house with a detatched shop, and that is where the fun will begin. First the Wheels. A set of 18" TSW Lagunas with Dunlop tires have been sitting in a buddies shop for 4 months, don't ask why, it's embarassing.
For 6 months I have had 3 Infinity kappa amps, and two Kappa Perfect 10s sitting hidden in the closet. The screen just went out on the Avic-N1, and swapped it for the N3. When it goes in, the XM Navtraffic, 6 disk changer, and Ipod Adapter are going in.
Just got the Jclaw traction bars powder coated, had them for 4 months.
The '00 IV intake manifold needs to go on when I hollar at Dave at Deachwerks for injectors for it.
300zx MAF and the best of all, is a vaccum activated exhaust cut out, that is going to exit the car from the drivers fender.
Almost forgot the dual v8 oil filter adapter, and oil cooler.

Now that the car is legal again, I am ready to get started. I'll get as much done as I can before NOPI.
Game on.

All I need is the injectors, every thing else I've had for months.

Hey Choray, glad you are back so i can pick your brain on the emanage. Found out I had a bad wire coming off the emanage ign. harness so I'm going to order a new one, that bad connection was causing a misfire in 1 cylinder. We got emissions here in WA and I failed too. The weird thing and good thing is that my obd port doesn't work, everyone that has tried to plug into it gets nothing, so they had to use the snifffer, I passed the 25mph test but it failed at idle, this is on stock injectors still, i think i just need new plugs, hopefully not a new cat. Check my cardomain for my turbo piping progress, there is a make shift y pipe on the car right now since it would be some time before i get everything installed. Currently driving on expired tags since I can't renew or change over to WA plates without emissions passing.

Not to nitpick, but I have an early '95 and it's OBDII. I've proven it time and time again. Nothing against you, just pointing it out. I don't think that was your problem.

Glad to see another boosted Maxima on the road again

You my friend are correct, and thank you for knowing the difference.
However from an emissions standpoint in Tennessee, the 95 Maxima is still considered non-compliant in respects to the OBD II programming. The best Maxima by far to modify is the 95 model for the simple fact it has a vacuum operated EVAP and EGR system. For the 96-model year all emission systems HAD to be electronically controlled. Because of that fact there are several cars made by Ford, GM, Toyota, Nissan, Infinity, and Mazda that were questionable when it came to emission standards.

You are correct when you say that the 95 Maxima is an OBD II car. When it is placed in an environment where pollutants dictate it" class, it is indeed classified as an OBD I.

This was a loophole that I found and was able to exploit. Praise the lord for incompetent engineers!

Take notes B!TCHES, this is how to work the system!
