Independant oil reservoir

I've been thinking about this the past couple days while still planning my rear mount turbo. I just cant figure out why no one has done it. I'm thinking, mount a separate oil reservoir in the trunk, with an oil pump to serve the turbo. it would be closer to the turbo and would not rely on the engine oil. It just seems to easy, why hasn't anyone done it? I can either weld together a metal oil reservoir or use a jegs fuel cell? Any recommendations on oil pumps to use for this type of job. Only reason i thought this up is because i dont like the idea of tapping into the main oil supply, leak=no more engine. Not a good plan, my way=only the turbo would blow.

For the trouble you are talking about, you should just convert to dry sump. Or you could just mount the turbo up front and not have to worry about it.

Dry sump? Dont know what that is. And this way would be cheaper than mounting upfront. I was thinking a scavenge pump like streatzlegend, but hooked to a oil reservoir.

It is basically what you described with the separate oil sump and pump, but for the engine.

I still don't understand the whole, I want to skate up hill and reinvent the wheel vs. improving what is tried and true mentality.
