Sup Tay, Actually i just got my car back this morning It was in the shop for like 30+ some days, remember the rear bumper collision and then someone literally keyed my whole right side twice and kicked dent to all panels. I got new right fender and doors. ![laugh](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/laugh.gif)
Dude i need to go check out your ride.

nope, max i've hit has been 6.5...... its rather hard to hit full boost with an auto. i keep saying that im going to take off the CAI and give it a try but i cant sqeeuze in the time to do it. so busy !
tay when are you going to get rid of those 19's ?? i know those ****ers are as heavy as mine, if not heavier

i am not sure if you know but turbo gives torque...i don't need to get rid of nothing unlike you s/c max....so no offense...mike ...check ur vacuum..not understanding y u r not hittingv ur boost....

Even with the lightweight 18's, the larger diameter still hurts the performance.
Why wait to dyno? Doing it now will reveal some usefull info for you.
Ive seen autos still hit higher boost then your making.
Are you hitting peak boost at 6500?

i dont have $300 to waste on a dyno right now. i havent paid attention to rpm's on WOT but i dont peak boost has been at 6500, maybe 6000. my current wheel setup weights 57 lbs on each corner, lighter 18's would knock it down to 42-43 which is a great improvement.
what larger diameter are u refering to? the diameter overall is going to be the same. actually, 18" tires will weight more than the 18" wheels i will get.

300.00 for a dyno run? Thats insane. The place where Ive dynoed charges 65.00 for two pulls and 100hr if tuning.

OK not for nothing, back when I had the auto tranny I also didn't see full boost (3.33 9psi) either. At most I would only see like 5-7psi, and I also asked a few people about it, and I never got a straight answer to why it did this. But it funny when I did the 5speed swap, it made 9psi and almost 11psi with the cai....... Those days are over

its 2 am and the streets are empty so i just took it out and went WOT from 5mph roll, hit 9 psi before i called it quits. im sure that 1 missing psi is there too but for now i need my tranny lol !

Wow I don't know what shop you are going to but 65-75 is average price here for 2 or 3 pulls on a Dynojet. Church's Dynopack is $80.

My Kosei 17"x7"s with 235/45 Toyo Proxes 4s weigh 36 lb 14.6 oz.
VIP, I think what Flava was trying to say by suggesting that you get lightweight smaller rims rather than lightweight larger rims is that lb for lb, smaller rims free up more rotational weight. For example, a 17" 15 lb wheel will still "free up" more horsepower than a 18" 15 lb wheel (given the same overall tire diameter) because metal weighs more than rubber and with the smaller rim, your metal is closer to the center. Does that make sense?
Yes, dyno prices can vary widely. The Wizard and I have seen dyno prices from $50 on a special event day to "$150 set-up fee and $75/hour" at another shop.
I'm really not following you guys with the correlation of having an automatic transmission and not hitting full boost. I've had a 3.60", a 3.25" and now a 2.87" pulley and I've hit the appropriate max boost with each pulley. Granted, I only hit max boost at the top of first. The top of second is maybe 2 PSI or so less than max. Are you doing your launches from a standstill or are you always doing a rolling start?
There is no reason why you shouldn't see redline in an auto. Even left in 'D', when you go WOT, the transmission won't shift prior to redline.

^^^^+1. Exactly. Doesn't matter if you're auto Mike, you should still hit the respective boost level based on your pulley size. Happy to hear you're hitting 9 psi now.
Now tell me Mike, when you hit 9 psi, did your car feel fast and put a big ol' smile on your face like this?

i got on it from a dead stop and chirpped 1st and 2nd all the way. i had my warning set to 8 psi and the light immediatly went off. when i checked peak boost it read 9.1 psi.... 10 psi is definetly there on the next try. it put the biggest smile on my face. that whinne from the scer and the BOV makes it worth every penny.
Josh i completly understand what you are saying but mathemtically i think it doesnt matter, but i could be wrong. here is how i think.
Lets saying im getting 18x8.5 that weights 20 lbs and a 245/40 that weights 24 lbs.
if u cut the wheel and tire into 4 euqal sectors (and the wheel is a 4 spoke design), that would give you 5lbs wheel and 6 lbs of tire on each sector. so tire still weights more !! now the same wheel in 17" would weight less than 20 lbs but you would have to up to 45 series tire where it would weight prolly 26lbs. you get my point? now this theory applies to froged light weight designs. boat anchors are a different story.
and rotational mass, i believe that applies to rim and tire combo, not just rim alone???

Michael, I understand what you are saying. True, tires are heavier than rims. However, that's only because "they are on the outside". If, for argument's sake, you could have a 17" or 18" rubber rim and then a 235/45 alloy tire, the combo would be much heavier than vice versa. For instance (pi x Rtire^2) minus (pi x Rwheel^2) is greater in square inch area than (pi x Rwheel^2). Anyway, this is getting too off topic. If you find yourself some nice lightweight 17s or 18s, you're golden.
Try not to excede the "1 lb per inch" rule and .8 or .9 lb/in is even better.

exactly, laws of physics say that you want the heavier stuff closer to the center rather than outside.
for arguments sake, lets say that you are given a limit of 40 lbs for a rim tire combo. i think its more beneficial to have a 25 lb rim and a 15lb tire rather than a 15 lb rim and a 25 lb tire.
anyways, you are the engineer so your math & physics > mine
the rim combo i will hopefully be getting is 18x8.5 19 lbs and 245/40 @ 23.5 lbs for a total of 42.5 lbs. thats shaving off 14 lbs on each side for me

Hey mike, have you ever had the P1605 trouble code(Automatic Transmission Control Unit signal to ECU)?? Its appeared twice on me, and for some odd reasons it occurs everytime at cruising speeds 40-50MPH. After i clear it,seems to go away and doesnt come back right on. Example last time i saw it was like 3-4 months ago.
