Congrats on another quality build! I'm jealous of your ability to complete the project by yourself. Good luck with fixing those little issues.

KEEP THE LANGUAGE CLEAN.

He was being sarcastic. There are 5.5 turbo's that have been running around for years. If you were not a newbie, you would know that already. Keep the language clean if you want to post here. You may also want to read around the forums a bit and catch up on all that has been done before you claim to be doing something groundbreaking.

Why are people still asking about Y-pipes? Why are people still interested in Altezza tail lights? Why why why? I'm not sure why people are so stupid, that still doesn't change the fact that what your doing is old like Hammer Time.

You need pics to be proven wrong? Here ya go. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....t=#post2122479

I know of others as well, but I'm not searching just to waste time on you. Your about 4 years too late to be claiming to be the first at anything.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I am building up a VQ35 as well.

The FI guys at my350z are just now catching on that the OEM headstuds are pretty strong. Majority of people say the the reg ARP > OEM though.

I was wondering how the OEM mainstuds were? Are they strong enough to hold up to 550whp all day? What about the OEM bearings?

Thanks in advance.

its been agreed that the strength of studs is like this: regular ARP<OEM<L19

recently 563WHP or so was made on stock everything at 19PSI on 116 race gas. if youre going to 550whp you might as well get L19 studs for safety

^^ He's asking about main studs not head studs. to my knowledge there is no such thing as an L19 Main stud, and the 350z engine builders that advocate the use of L19 head studs still use regular ARP main studs in their engine builds. there are also cosworth main studs but I haven't seen those listed in many builds, probably because they are unnecessary, more expensive, and I'd expect they are more difficult to come by.

So, are oem mainstuds stronger than arp mainstuds?

I'm probably going to stick to oem headstuds. It will be set at ~480whp for daily driving and probably ~550whp for track with race gas.

I highly doubt it, being as all the motor builders use ARP mains instead of stock mains as stated earlier.

I sure as **** wouldn't use OEM headstuds on a car that is going to be tracked at the 550whp level. L19s is what you want.

Standard ARP's have been used on 350Z builds to ~650whp+. If the standard headstuds are indeed stronger, then why not save money and use them instead?

yeah, i was thinking headstuds earlier, where the OEM are stronger than the regular ARP. the 650+whp tune on stock headstuds was done with 116 octane race gas, the 93 octane tune made something more like *<450whp. i wouldnt cheap out on headstuds with all the headlift issues, unless youre going to be running super octane gas. there arent many people building to 650 whp and not going to L19's or 1/2" studs. personally i wouldnt go to the 1/2" studs because of the machine work required and the engine failures that may or may not have been related to bad machine work. i wouldnt risk it

You keep switching between talking about main studs and head studs, to which are you referring in the post I just quoted? because I already agreed with you that L19>OEM>Standard ARP when it comes to HEAD studs.

Edit: I just re-read your post and realized you are indeed talking about head studs. I haven't seen any of those builds that use Standard ARP head studs up to 650+whp but if you have, and you believe they are sufficient - go for it. I'd need to see the evidence before I'd make that call for my own motor build.

but I thought we were talking about main studs - ARPs or OEM are available. Most all of the motor builds I read about are using ARPs so that's what I'd use, but someone really wants to save the $180 on their $3000+ engine build and the OEMs have been used up to 650+whp then maybe the ARPs are just overkill.

I'm not going over 550whp because the engine wouldn't be overbuilt for it. 550whp would be with race gas only, 100+ octane. Daily driving tune ~500whp at most. I'm thinking the stock head and stock main studs are good enough for this. Of course, I'd get brand new ones.
