Opinions on this turbo:

I picked it up barely used off a friend for a steal, but I'm a total noob when it comes to what size I'm looking for.

It's a t3/t4 A/R .63 turbine, compressor A/R .60. Not sure if any other info is needed off this.

I know it's a pretty small turbo, but should this be ok on a 3.5 for the mid 300-400 whp range with a early spool?

yeah, sounds perfect, not sure you'll get "early spool" but it def won't be too late!

thats about the average sized T3/T4 hybrid size for a maxima. I think 400WHP would be kinda pushing it for this turbo. Mid 300's should be fine though! What wheel is inside there? Determining what kinda power/spoool is kinda a guessing game without knowing those two facts.

you should be okay. there are people making very near 400 whp on the mazda 2.5 v6 with this sized hybrid..and they are starting with 90 less bhp..

I don't know if you guys are psychic or seeing something I'm not or what, but the OP hasn't provided the one piece of info that is most relevant to his question - what wheel is in this turbo. No one can make a determination one way or the other as to the appropriateness of this turbo without knowing what wheel it has. the wheel is way more important than the ARs are. AR means virtually nothing with regards to power potential.

Ok good info. Is there an easy way to tell what wheel?

You can take the housing off and measure the wheel and check those measurements against known wheel sizes and figure out which one it is. Other than that your friend *should* know what turbo he purchased or his invoice for the turbo would say I imagine.

Cool, yeah I was reading up on some more advanced stuff too. It's pretty interesting. I need to take this compressor out and see what wheel it has, but it's a t4 and .60 a/r, and ran some 450 whp numbers on a tacoma 2.4l, so I'm hoping it'll be enough. lol

if it made 450whp on a 2.4L then it'll probably be just fine making 400ish on your 3.5.

cool. If I really had to I'd lower the redline so it stays in an efficient range.
