so not to clutter the sc/tc section but i figured you guys could school me.

i have nooo clue what tuning involves.. but im very curious.
what is tuning? what does it involve? how hard is it to do? what does it take to learn? can you tune anything? how complex does it get?

At low throttle and rpm your engine uses the oxygen sensors and maf sensor to adjust the fuel injectors. At higher throttle the engine works off of maf signal and the ECU (engine computer) pre-set (tuned from the factory) settings. For example, it will take the maf signal and look up the corresponding chart value on it's memory and give the correct amount of fuel. As soon as you change anything from a stock car you "should" tune to take advantage of it. You can tune with a piggyback fuel computer like the apexi vafc2 which intercepts the maf signal, then you can change values (tune) and the signal will then continue to the ecu. But you can't adjust ignition timming which is important (safety) and gives you more power. If you have more money in your pocket then you go to something that can control timming as well such as the E-manage or a stand alone ecu. The most basic thing used for tuning a sc or turbo is the FMU. It has a diaphragm inside which moves based on vacuum and bumps fuel pressure to the injectors. For example, on my sc setup I have a FMU which is a crude way of tuning and I also have a vafc2 to fine tune some more. It's basic but it works. Now go read till your eyeballs fall out.
