V2 Supercharger Slight Belt Movement

Hey Everyone,

I finall took out the maxima from its deep sleep over the winter. It's now time to work out all the kinks left in the system! The first and biggest one is the ever so slight belt shredding issue I'm always getting! Always on one side...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hHxnI_CbTs

Is it just my eye or is it only the belt that's moving and not the pulley itself? If that's the case the tensioner pulley needs to be replaced. Although I'd like to mention that the tensioner pulley can be split in half and the bearing can be replaced within. I have done this last summer but still have the slight shreading. Now I'm baffled. Is the supercharger pulley on a bearing or just goes over a shaft?

The bracket is fully bolted on, I'm not missing any standoffs or bolts (except the middle one that had to be removed as I'm using a 2.87" pulley)

Any ideas? I'm thinking tensioner pulley but would like some input. I can take another video of the tensioner pulley if this might help figure this out.

Thanks

the supercharger pulley just goes over a shaft, no bearing.
from the video, yes, it does look like its just the belt moving. i dont know what would cause that. it almost looks like the grooves are not lined up right or something. are the grooves on the pulley all straight?

Yup, the lines on the pulley are lined up.

What are my alternatives for tensioner pulleys? The J30 idler pulley?

Alrighty! I think I found the issue. Now I never looked into it because I figured hey this was on someones max before I purchased it. But this is what I'm thinking is the issue.

The tensioner pulley has smaller groves to position the belt (right beside the walls) this is whats eating away at the sides of my belt! So i'm going to machine the groves out and make the riding surface flat as it also seems to be slightly uneven

This is whats happening:

You can see how uneven the pulley looks! I hope this fixes my issue once and for all. BTW I'm keeping the side walls on just machining from wall to wall flat. Looks like this pulley was custom made....

ahh, that could be the issue! glad u figured it out (crosses fingers).

it wouldve been impossible for me to even come up with that cuz i thought we all used the stock tensioner pulley...(smooth with no walls). my idler pulley looks more like that one, without those "custom" grooves of course. good luck tho!

Matty's V1 kit fixed all those issues for me. It's been solid for years

I was going to go for matty's kit but I thought by the time the kit gets here I could put a turbo setup together. That was last year's thinking. I know fixed the pulley and put it back on the car. I found out I had a stuck caliper. So once that's resolved I'll see if the belt shreds anymore. If not I might sell the supercharger in a months time and go turbo.

A worn out alignment key on the Vortech shaft could be worn out (especially if the the SC pulley is loose) which will cause wobble like on your video.

Buy a new ASP STEEL pulley. As you can see an Aluminum one wears away.

Good luck.

There isn't any shaft play an the Vortech pulley. I machined the tensioner pulley but haven't had the chance to drive the car as I have a stuck caliper.

Well of course, the V1 kit uses the stock tensioner. Technically you didn't fix the problem, you went around it.

On a side note, my issue is fixed! Finally! The belt still has a slight side to side play but that's probably the belt itself. At least I'm not shredding the inner wall of the belt anymore.

That's great to hear Nooby. Give us another update in a week or so to confirm this was the solution. Happy boosting!

You want to make a bracket and thermostat housing? Bracket I can't help you as its on the car but the thermostat housing is stock. Only in the Matty's v1 bracket its modified.

Thermostat housing for the V1 plate is not stock for the Stillen item as well as Mattys.

I have a 94 nissan altima with a vq30de swap and a 3.5L fwd upper, lower and fuel rail intake swap. I purchased a B&M procharger. If I can't get pictures of the bracket it will take me longer to do my own prototype design and do all the measurements. The faster I can get this done the better so all help is need.

Im not sure if having a pic of the bracket will even help you since your using a different blower which may not even mount to the plate.
The V1 plate uses the mounting holes for the timing chain cover and motor mount.

Update...I shredded my belt again. Now this was the one I had a year ago which had skipped a rib or 2 a couple of times. So likely the belt itself was damaged and now finally gave in.

Anywho I was wondering if there is any adjustments made possible with the actual supercharger pulley. Is there any shims that can be used to move the pulley left or right? or is it fixed? I don't have any room to put a straight edge to see if the pulleys are aligned. I can tell you for sure that the crank, tensioner pulley, AC and alternator are good.

Also I took the stock idler pulley which looks like the alternative tensioner pulley people buy for the V2 now adays and am going to use that as my tensioner pulley and use my old tensioner pulley (has side walls) as my idler pulley. maybe that extra length will help out.

Anywho any ideas on the alignment of the supercharger pulley would be great!

Unless I'm blind I don't see anything stating that it can be adjusted on the manual. Maybe it was just the fact it wasn't done properly the first time and the belt wasn't savable.

Hope you figure it out, some thing doesnt look right. Id start with your tensioners I cant see it being the blower itself.

By the way I checked out some of your other vids, your BOV sounds nice what kind is it?

Also you need to update your track vids with some times

Checked the alignment all i need now is the make the thermostat housing get a stock hood and find a belt for this car. Since I never factored in was size belt is needed but thats not going to be hard to get since the alternator is adjustable too. After that find the boost level that i like, cant be high since it is a stock motor with a couple mods. Tax return will be to rebuild spare motor that is in my garage. Wish I could hit the lottery LOL.

The car ran a 12.8@109 with a slipping LSD (new tranny installed ). I have 2 BOV lol, a Greddy Type-S and a JGS Precision BOV (I believe). they work great!

The belt issue is 10000% fixed. the belt just needed to be moved closer to the pulley (closer to motor). No issue at all, not even a rub!

So I finish my setup. This supercharger turns the opposite rotation as the motor, DAMN. I know with the vortex they rotate clockwise in the input pulley than goes through and helical gear and then to the output turbine and rotates counterclockwise. Mine turns counter clock wise as well except mine is internally belt driven so clockwise will be clockwise on the turbine so I fixed that issue with 2 6rib pulleys
