2011 Backyard Turbo Build

I figured it's about time to make a new build thread. The plan was to make something different, spool faster and resolve a ground clearance issues by running the downpipe under the oilpan instead of the tranny.

When making the setup I was planning to run my masterpower turbo and a car with no abs. Well I found out after the setup was basicly done that my turbo was bad, the car I was going to get was sold and that I would have to use a drivers sid slim fan or delete it. Plus due to the design of the 350z headers a few of the bolts were alittle hard to reach. Due the price I was quoted for a rebuild I figured it cheaper to just buy a holset hx35, sell the setup and start over.

The plan was to make a det style setup with custom headers, clear the fans and abs unit, bolts easy to reach, run the downpipe under the oilpan, face the turbo behind the driverside head light and just a overall easy install.

I was going to make the headers equal length but felt it wasn't worth the hassle at my projected power level. I am going to make a setup like mine for a local org member with equal length headers and a 3.5 to 4inch downpipe running out the fender, no exhaust "shooting for 650-700fwhp"

Here is a pic of the old setup which is already sold and maybe installed already.

So before the downpipe was made I mounted the holset and didn't like the way it looked. Nothing wrong with the turbo it's just not the prettiest thing so I took a stab at rebuilding my masterpower and it worked. Tested it on a local members car and it was fine so I cut the t3 holset flange off and welded a t4 flange and bought a 3inch v-band for the downpipe. Also the Masterpower turbo over all is a smaller unit althou the wheel is bigger than the holset.

Here are some pic's with the turbo mounted and the downpipe poking out the oilpan. Now I just need to install a 3inch flex and figure out the wastegate location.

Ok so the flex section is welded along with the waste gate. The pipe runs over the upper rad hose between the rad and front valve cover. I was going to route the dump back into the exhaust but changed my mind and just going with a open dump

I'll take some pic's later now

Looking good but your shooting for 650 to 700fwhp ? A holset35 wont put you even close and that will cost you around 100k or more if you wnat it to run after that dyno session. Definitely looking good though.

I don't think he was referring to his build. He said he was build another setup for another member.

100k to make 700hp, lol

Like stated, that is another build and I not using a holset. I rebuilt my T61 turbo and going to use that, it should be good to around 450-500fwhp but I am only shooting for around 350-400

It would take a good 100k that's why I asked. 350-400whp is nice, after that you would probably lose must streetability of the car. What are you running as far as suspension and tires ? Also oem axles ?

it doesn't take 100k to make power, already seen it done

Lmao you've seen it nice. I've done it. No way is the transmission, ignition, axles, suspension brakes, chasis, cooling system, or most of the rest of the oem car going to be able to handle 700fwhp or 800bhp. Once you get to a certain point power becomes very very expensive and there can be no cutting corners. Here is a 82 firebird I built and tuned for a kid. 343 small block fully built running a t88 on 20 psi. Block and fuel injection were the only parts of the car done good enough imo, and now the car is gone unfortunately. There was well over 50k in parts into that car alone. And making power out of a 343 is much easier.

2 totally different cars and just because the dyno said 620whp there is no way he drives around with more than 400hp and those axles last. Civic's snap axles all day.

What are you running for tuning ? The welds and rest of the setup all looks pretty good.

not looking to go back and forth, I have other cars, be there, done that, made the power and know people that have made the power with nissan and other makes it can be done for less than 100k.

As for tuning this time since I am going shooting for 300DD and 400hp weekend/track a safc2 and meth on stock timing will do. Maybe later down the line I'll swap out the safc2for a AEM piggyback.

How come you're not using that JWT ECU that you had?

I remember you mentioning that you had them make a nice custom timing map with like 17 degrees of timing.

I doubt if the person who bought the ecu will sell it back so safc2 it is. I called myself getting out of the maxima game, sold everything but then turbo, waste gate, exhaust and suspension then I started to miss having a boosted car and now need a sedan for the family. I was going to boost my G35 but the warranty does run out till next year so I am going to turbo max till then.

I was also thinking about trading in my G35 coupe for a 07 G35x sedan and making a twin turbo kit for that but I am still researching the awd system and it's limits

Sure, I have everything already besides the car and front lip so it shouldn't take much more than a three day weekend to transform the car from bone stock to a lower, boosted and tuned monster

You should bring this killer out to some meets when its done.

I've been hitting up the sonic in bensalem a lot lately. It's a pretty nice meet.

it's really not that bad, I have air tools and a flat driveway. The hardest thing will be removing and installing that rear ehaust manifold. Pretty everything is done, oil pan welded, injectors installed, fuel rail, intercooler piping layout, springs and shocks/struts assembled, radio and screen rewired and fitted into radio trim already and etc

5spd only

You should bring this killer out to some meets when its done.

I was just at sonic last week with my G35 and a few local members, one with a boosted 4gen and the other with a audi s4 twin turbo.

I could but it's kinda hard to make a downpipe without the feedpipe. But I could make the downpipe just like mine and the buyer could make a feedpipe that would bolt to it
