I learned this the hard way when chasing down a exhaust leak on my G35 only to find out my art pipes had two hair line cracks in them but it was nothing a nice thick bead didn't fix.

Also the ser headers a y-pipe are made of SS and I rather avoid mixing metals if possible.

btw ... why don't you aim a little higher ? 400-450whp ?

these motors can take it ... and maybe even switch to e85 if your really wanna be safe ...

you have the advantage of the 6 speed tranny ...minus whale abuse it lol ... the auto's start rippin into shreads after the 300whp mark lol

Yeah, Hal at Dynosty told me the VQ35DE motors can go anywhere from 425-450whp on a good tune turboed. He said you can push 475whp but its pushing it......

Its not really the HP numbers....its the torque...so technically you can make 500hp and 350torque....I believe around the 425ft-lbs mark is the question. More so your driving habits...if you BEAT the CRAP out of it, then dont expect much life from the engine at those HIGHER numbers.

i know a grip of people pushing 500+ whp on complete stock motors

heck on bone stock motor i slapped on a 125 shot (UNTUNED) and it held up just changed the pills nothing more lol

it amazed me and i said why is it not blowing up LOL ? VQ's are really strong motors

heck a few hit almost 600whp on stock motors

(off topic kinda) but Uprev HQ just did a TT G37 stock untoched motor and made 650whp


NOW this is the tricky part LOL

how often will you get on it ? thats what matters ... if your a mad man getting on it 5 nights a week ... yea 350-400whp should be enough lol

The VQ37VHR motor is a totally different beast. Torque is controlled with that VVEL system Nissan has. They don't make GOBS of torgue and then die out like the original VQ35DEs. They make a flat torque curve with power coming on smoother and STAYING there all the way till redline. I've seen twin turbo 370z/G37 make over 500hp and have like 380ft-lbs all through the rpm range basically......they have BEEFIER internals too so thats nothing.



See above STOCK BLOCK 370z GTM Stage 2 twin turbo kit @7 PSI made 479WHP (AT ALMOST 7500 RPM!!!) and 380ft-lbs FLAT CURVE. On a VQ35DE, depending on turbo, if you making 479whp you making about the same torque.....and its not that flat AND definately need more than 7 PSI to accomplish that!! Those new VQ37VHR engines are LOVELY!!!! DAM...I gotta get one of those!!!!

AGAIN...this was ONLY 7PSI!!!!! Imagine 10 PSI!!!!

But back to VQ35de ... they have seen 600whp stock motor ..

switch to e85 and you shouldn't have any issues making 450whp

You said that you are going to have RT Tuning to tune the car? Did you already make an appointment? I called and you have to make an appointment for a tune a WHOLE MONTH in advance......just in case you haven't called. I heard they were really good though.

EDIT: I just called RT Tuning and they said VINCE, the tuner that specializes in the VQ35DE motors, is going to be out MOST of May. Just a heads up if you planning on tuning in May I dont know if you going to be able to get in. Might be June.

Please tell me those are not plastic zip ties, also you spray the pipe before you wrap it then spray it again. Last try the keep the over lap on the wrap even and tight so it does not create hot spots and crack the pipe

I used hose clamps instead of zip ties since those will probably melt, even with the wrap that stuff still gets pretty hot. An even less expensive option would be some tying wire.

I don't think you need a backup motor if its tuned right and you are safe with the car. Unklejoe has been turbo for thousands, maybe even 10's of thousands of miles and no problems at all. 1swtmax had 410whp with a turbo on 12psi.....no problems at all. A slew of other Maximas here, SHIFT_MAX and others have turbos......no problems. Why buy another engine for nothing? When people start being DUMB turning boost up and up, or they ALREADY had problems with the engine and then put a turbo on knowing darn well they had problems that is when people blow engines and stuff. Other than that he'll be just fine.

Good tune or not, when ever boosting your car you should always have backup. Its not wasting money its being smart. And we all get a little boost crazy when it comes to boost LOL you might say one thing but when you behind the wheel we do another thing

LOL. I figure there will always be someone faster. No need to blow up my stuff and have expensive repairs all because of a PRIDE issue. I'm good....the car is fast and you will not beat every car out there. If I'm on 7psi and lose by a car then OH WELL. That is the way I figure. With a 400whp turbo FWD car you will be able to beat the MASS majority of vehicles on the street anyway. The only ones that you will NOT be able to beat are the people that sink THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of dollars into their vehicles modding them up....and honestly, they DESERVE to win if they put that kind of money into their cars. I don't expect to beat modded up EVOs, STIs with 450+whp, Supercharged Corvettes or Mustangs or anything with a monster V8 with forced induction, Lambos, modded up GT-Rs, etc. I really could care less. It bascially comes down to how much money you want to spend. I want to save and buy a home.....not an engine.......so boost will stay at 7psi.

Now once I get the home then the 370z will come and then we talking about engine build and twin turbos with over 700whp......

I been at 7psi and sure a part of me says Moar boost but at the same time at what cost? Not worth the money and the more lack of traction that will happen.
