Supercharger went boom

Well not really, but I am estimating about 70,000 miles.. and my impeller bearings went bad...

Long story short looking for supercharger guys advice...

I have a V2 S trim and am looking at possibly changing to a SI or T trim... any advice is welcome..

I was making 15 psi with a 2.62 pulley at 6500rpm

Also I was going to rebuild it myself but I think the impeller wore into the compressor housing ever so slightly...... and after looking up the cost of parts to rebuild it... went ahead and just sent it to Vortech.... will probably hear something from them by the end week.

Thanks

Hopefully Vortech doesn't turn around and say "Hey, this can't be rebuilt. Buy a new one."

I'm sending mine out to 928 Motorsports.

Efficiency is key. Go for the Si trim.

I haven't heard one in a very long time but I remember the T trim being LOUD.

The T-trim is old school technology, and I believe is the least efficient blower of the bunch (SQ, Si, T etc)

928 should have mine today. I'm hoping for good news.

T'trims are excellent blowers, and are what I run when guys want 700ish rwhp in corvette applications.

Rebuilding superchargers is stupid easy. If you ever take one apart you will be upset you spent so much on it. Most bearing supply houses have the parts in stock. Honestly, it's like 50 bucks in parts. If it takes an engine oil line, and is not self contained, it is even easier as you don't have the oil slinger to deal with.

With all that being said, I would run the smallest supercharger on these VQ engines as a smaller blower turned up will outperform a bigger blower turned down every time. Even the smallest is more CFM than these things can handle in my opinion. Travis Codello on this forum brought me his car and I installed a Si, and his car made 13lbs, and ran like no maxima should, and I still think it is too big.

I'll agree that T-trims are way overkill for the Maxima. My point still stands that T-trims are the least efficient blowers made.

Like you, I've rebuilt my own blower with new seals. Never needed to replace bearings. It's kind of a pain in the *** to get the blower separated.

Yes supercharger rebuild is not hard, but there's 2 or 3 things you MUST do in order or you can screw it up.

^^ when I did mine.
I changed the bearings - upgraded to higher RPM bearings on impeller side and new bearings on pulley side (only revving to 7000) with all new seals.

All parts ~ $230

Not necessary, I over spin them ALL. My personal Procharger on my Z06 is overspun with a direct drive.....no belt slip....about 12,000 rpm. I also run self contained blowers primarily with 0w20 motor oil, not procharger oil, and have had not 1 bearing failure. I've probably done about 12-15 in the past couple years. Don't waste your money.
